It's not cheap but cold-bend hardwood is wacky. No steam. I use it for chairs I intend to paint. Company is Pure Timber out on the West Coast if you're interested. The chairs in my feed used those for the arm bow.

It's a woodworking reference AND a callback to a traumatic childhood nickname! Woodworker with a focus on hand tool woodworking. Nature-lover, sci fi enthusiast, fisherman, cook, teacher, student... and Linux user. I'm here for the dank memes.

I've had good luck with kiln dried stock! Not always, but worty the try when you can't get green wood.
Real nice, Duncan! Yes, chair arm bending can be wonderful... And horribly frustrating. Sometimes both at the same time! Nice chair.
Bench maintenance today. Flattened the top of the bench (it had cupped a bit), removed the face vice for some maintenance, and put some herbal oil on it.
I may need to mix up some epoxy and sawdust and fill some errant drill-bit holes that I am ashamed of. ๐๐คญ
Some good news for the visually-oriented social media people amongst us!
Great work! Just keep at it and you'll keep improving. Enjoy.
Dovetails today. Gotta get sharp: literally and metaphorically.
This post has my emotions bubbling up to the surface like so much magma through continental crust.
The left hand armrest on a vernacular Windsor chair. The light strikes it and shows an imperfection in the arm.
I love woodworking not because of the great things that are created any more than the humbling ones.
I made this chair and I love it. Every time I look down at the handle I see an errant cut with a hand plane that I overlooked.
Humility.
Chop saw station up and running. Next the split for the router table and the drop for the small tools. That might wait for another day as I'm short on mounting options.
The grave? That seems dark...
So it begins. I don't have much dust collection in my shop but I do have some. Today marks the first stage of upgrading from just a hose and collection system to one with a manifold.
Step 1: hard plumb the collector to the chip separator.

To Mordor by the New Year!
From a somewhat suggestive sketch (get your mind out of the gutter: we're running out of room.) on some cherry to the finished product. Handle replacement on an old saw.
Die Hard is a Christmas Movie. It is a literal interpretation of the feeling of trying to survive a holiday party as an introvert.
You're just trying to survive the night when some extrovert with big ideas holds the party hostage and you get emotionally bloodied and bruised just trying to go home.
Driving around in the snow squalls with Unmarked Helicopters playing uncomfortably loud on repeat on the radio just feels right.
No drones spotted. ๐

Nice work!
Got out an old friend today. This Stanley No 8 can flatten a panel in short order. I absolutely love this beast of a plane.

Can we please bring back the misunderstood spider meme?
Finishing the cherry table with #woodwax requires time for the wax to harden. Four to six days for a soft set: a month for a hard set.
Heat can help a lot. So here's my tarp envelope and space heaters on low.

Finally got around to stripping the poly off the cherry dining room table. We've been eating off that for 8 years but it had a few soft spots.
Stripped it with BlueBear 605, which worked wonders. Then sanded and applied a coat of Herbal Oil from #bioshield.
Next step are coats of wax.
There is nothing more disappointing than pulling bacon out of the fridge for a burger only to discover that you inadvertently bought maple flavor.
Nothing. And I've seen some shit.
Not a bad partner to binge The Expanse... For the third time.
A saddle and tack cabinet.
Baltic birch plywood with red oak face frame and door frame. Stained outside with unwaxed shellac interior.

The last coat of Black Iron milk paint over three coats of barn red.
Sanded vigorously with red Scotch Brite pad between coats to burnish the surface.
Tomorrow is the last sanding, then onto the oil applications.
Done by Sunday evening.

Straight up: Kiss from A Rose cannot be listened to without participation.
Belt that shit out. Top of your lungs.
Thank you now and forever, Seal.
And how they pass dozens of houses of people who themselves are preparing for their day. Some days will be good and some difficult.
On some level we're all extras in people's lives. It was a humbling thought but one that fills me with a sense that we're all in this together.
So happy Thanksgiving.
Happy Thanksgiving, all.
I was up in the middle of the night last night and found myself pondering as I stared out the window at the few cars passing by.
I couldn't help but think about those people, on their way to work or the airport, or whatever else. (Continued)
I cannot paint this color without a They Might Be Giants song, "Boat of Car," cycling through my head.
"With my Barn of Chair, barn of chair..."
