Got my "sticky emails" down from somewhere in the 80s to somewhere in the 50s today, so I got that going for me, which is nice.

Went to PT today. I asked how many follow-ups I need.

Therapist: "let me check how many visits your insurance allows per year."

Should that really be the deciding factor?

Maybe it's nostalgia, but I'm thinking about James Garfield's comment that the ideal education was "Mark Hopkins at one end of a log and a student at the other."

Does sound nice...

Isaac Asimov wrote β€œThe Fun They Had” decades ago, but it still hits home today. A 5-minute read that raises big questions about learning, technology, and what we lose along the way.

ok, I've clearly committed to spending way too much time on drawing a syllabus as 8-page semi-mini-comic. But it's still fun. Not all pages will be as dense as this is on its way to being...

Prepping a talk on AI and teaching and learning for tomorrow.

But what I'm really talking about is cognition and who needs to be doing it.

Censorship Arrives on Campus In her debut column, β€œEchoes in the Quad,” higher education policy scholar Dominique J. Baker explores how the political oppression of the McCarthy era reverberates in the stifling of academic freedom...

It would appear I am now a columnist at Inside Higher Ed. My first piece focuses on McCarthyism, censorship, and our current moment in higher education. This is an essay I started nearly 6 months ago so I'm glad to finally share it with y'all.

When I was teaching about 6 sections of freshman comp years ago, a mentor said "you can do anything for a semester."

It was meant kindly, as encouragement.

At the time, I believed it. I thought it was brilliant, even.

Now I see it as normalizing burnout.

Be kind to yourselves!
