Notably absent were any student-athletes.

"They're very well represented," Trump said. "You know why? Because people like Nick Saban and Urban Meyer, all of the people that I know in the room -- and the people probably I don't know -- they all care very much about the student-athlete more so than they care about themselves, so I think they're really here. In that sense, they're represented very well here."

Also, this is the funniest thing. Just nonsense.

The full quote is so absurd. ESPN’s framing makes it seem somewhat normal but also, I mean it’s so incomprehensible and not how anything works that does it matter? It’s all just so dumb.

Seems like we're inching closer to President Donald Trump saying, "Can't be distracted, 'What's going on with the war?' 'What's wrong with the economy?' Stop worrying about that! I got that shit under control. Let's focus on space! The United States of Space!"

Ben Krimmel: Colonials propped up by unflappable balance Close examination of the stat sheet revealed that yet again the Colonials’ balanced scoring attack was the reason for Foggy Bottom celebrations. Balanced in scoring and passing as GW had 23 assists on...

"Shaking off the defeat at Dayton like a bad dream, the Colonials dispatched Duquesne as easily as a freshman blows off their alarm clock before an 8 a.m. class."

Duquesne's Ovie Soko had a HAMMER slam at George Washington. And I, The GW Hatchet basketball columnist, yelled "OOOOH!" on press row. The Washington Post's Gene Wang was displeased at my lack of decorum. But he broke the rim stopping the game!

There is zero video of it. It is my white whale.

"We think about it all the time. We plan for it,” President Donald Trump said of retaliatory attacks on U.S. soil by Iran. β€œBut yeah, you know, we expect some things. Like I said, some people will die. When you go to war, some people will die."

Jack Donaghy holding a pie chart of NBC programming priorities breakdown with a large portion "The Biggest Loser" and a second large portion, "Make it 1997 again through science or magic" and a tiny sliver called "everything else."

NBC, which started becoming the NBC from 30 Rock when they called their streaming service Peacock, seems committed to the Jack Donaghy 'make it 1997 again' strategy.

Aaron Glenn confirms he will call Jets defense: 'Play calling is my superpower' Jets head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed that he will call the plays for the defense for the 2026 NFL season. "I’ll be honest with you, I missed being a play caller."

β€œI will be the play caller when it comes to the defense,” Aaron Glenn said today. "To me, play calling is my superpower, really."

Lotta interesting quotes in here from the Jets head coach, including on Woody Johnson and Glenn choosing Brian Duker over Wink Martindale for DC:

To argue the American hockey victory shouldn't be 'partisan' is not unreasonable. However, Roenick's take falls apart as we all know how President Donald Trump operates. And he will be the one who makes the US hockey wins over Canada as a cudgel for his partisan political goals.

Infographic of Jeremy Roenick quote: β€œShame on everybody for not celebrating this,” Roenick said. β€œSports is not supposed to be political. It’s supposed to unite the country. We’re all supposed to get together and believe in one thing. I think 99% of Americans on social media was loving it.

β€œAnd then you turn around and see the politicization of the sport, and it’s just not right,” he continued. β€œThe hypocrites are coming out in droves and it’s unfortunate we can’t take the greatest moments in sports and all celebrate it. It’s a real shame.”

Big issue with 'discourse' in sports, politics, etc. is that people don't use the right words for what they're trying to express. Roenick doesn't like the partisan nature of this. Fine. But to call the Olympics 'not political' is absurd because the event is inherently political.

By my math, Everton took an average of 47.9 seconds to restart play on 10 corners, Jordan Pickford took an average of 36 seconds on seven goal kicks, and the Blues took an average of 16.55 seconds on 22 throw-ins. Bleak.

Darryl Strawberry says Pete Alonso will 'regret' leaving Mets for Orioles Darryl Strawberry believes that Pete Alonso will come to "regret" leaving the Mets for the Orioles this offseason: "I just don’t leave New York to go to Baltimore."

Over on YES, Michael Kay just started to call a home run by Ali Sanchez that was actually a replay of the home run Spencer Jones just hit a few moments earlier.

More context: Jones is gigantic and a left-hander, Sanchez is not big and right-handed. Ooof.

Yea, I watched, which is a weird thing to ask because our interaction began with you quoting my post of a screenshot I took of the MASN broadcast, which I watched while writing about the game. I think you’ve not understood my points here, so, I think it’s best to just disengage for now.

I just don't understand a willingness to call this product going from woefully inadequate to simply meh as a substantive success for fans. I don't think MASN has earned an ounce of praise for coming closer to what should be seen as standard, floor requirements for the industry.

20.02.2026 23:05 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 1

This argument exemplifies the attitude from some O's fans that I think is worthy of criticism: This thing could get worse so better not push for better than just ok enough.

20.02.2026 22:37 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah, I am saying you shouldn't accept that this is a choice the team/MASN have to make. Them saying these are the two options is crap, and I think Orioles fans have been too accepting of a lot of crap from both ownership groups for the past near 30 years of small market 'poor us' BS.

20.02.2026 22:22 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, MASN actually broadcasting games is good. But I think you should care because it is a worse product with remote announcers. (An issue today came up during the Albernaz interview, even.) To me, it just shows things aren't up to snuff, and in a billion-dollar league, they should be better.
