The government has promised to extend the vote to 16/17-year-olds but without AVR many young people won’t actually be able to have their say. It would also help renters, ethnic minority communities, disabled people and others who are disproportionately missing from the register.
We recently added our name to a letter urging the government to introduce Automatic Voter Registration (AVR). This simple change would ensure that everyone who is eligible is automatically added to the electoral roll when they interact with public services.
We were delighted to get sign ups from a raft of MPs including The Speaker of the House, Lindsay Hoyle and former Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak.
We were delighted to co-host the Great Parliamentary Get Together with Kim Leadbeater, Jo Cox’s sister, to celebrate Jo’s life, work and lasting legacy. The Civllity Pledge, designed with the The Jo Cox Foundation is an opportunity for politicians to commit to the values Jo supported.
