Agreed. And something about a person misusing "gaslighting" sort of plays up a perceived victimhood in an un-needed dramatic fashion, which tends to diminish people who are truly victims of gaslighting.
I continue to be fascinated by the phenomenon whereby an expert engages with any of the LLMs on their field of expertise and is instantly horrified by the wrong answers, and then goes on to use it for things they are not experts in as though it won’t be just as bad for those.
Gaslighting is term for a specific form of manipulation used to make one constantly doubt their reality, but people use it as a catch-all for ANY perceived deception. Trust me, you ordered a shitty set of watercolors, Temu isn't gaslighting you.
