I started playing an old Spinners record during 2nd lunch period today. A student came in and said βyou got the vibes in here!β And that sounds like a successful School Librarian Day to me. #TLSky #libraries
Equity Arc, which trains young musicians of color, was set to play with the US Marine Band β until Trump's anti-DEI order canceled the show.
But Chicago stepped up, and now the students will perform at @chicagosymphony.bsky.social on 4/6. Grab a free ticket and join me in cheering them on. cso.org

Iβm on a 4 hour bus ride with Beta club to attend State. So far Iβve been serenaded with Disney songs, listened to them debate the value of American Imperialism, and heard them playing a video game together. Supervising teenage nerds is a trip.
Last weekβs question of the week: no heating or no air conditioning?
I guess since we live in Southern IL they canβt stand being hot, and can tough out the rare cold snaps.

Bulletin board with Quotes from famous black Americans for Black History Month.
Feeling as though my bulletin board this month could be considered an act of resistance.
Iβm thankful I live in Illinois. In many places I would be a target.
Votes tally for our weekly question
Last week MCHS voted whether they wanted to play in the Super Bowl or perform at the halftime show. Again, evenly divided! #tlsky #libraries #passiveprogramming
My state has now started providing databases (same company that we used to pay for). But now I am having trouble getting tech support for issues, and Iβm getting frustrated.
My husband brought me a blanket fresh from the dryer. Itβs the little things.

Dorothy B. Porter changed libraries π
The Dewey Decimal System used to only have two classifications for Black people: 325 (colonization) & 326 (slavery). Each book by a Black person was put into one of these classifications. A book of poetry? Classified as colonization.

Learned about the Ctrl-F project by @civixcanada.bsky.social at the Ontario Library Superconference last week. Really love the Example bank which offers current examples of misinformation and lesson ideas. #TLSky #EduSky

It appears weβre evenly divided over this weekβs question. Would you rather carry a flip phone or only use a desktop computer? #TLSky #libraries

Thank goodness it didnβt get the books!
Itβs nice! And wonderful that we are trusted folks in the school. But I do love saying, βno I wonβt do it for you but I will show you how to do it yourself!β
Repair of a winter coat.
A day (or an hour, rather) in the life of a school librarian. Since the library has all the things, I repaired a tear in a winter coat. Usually I use these opportunities to teach the student how to do this, but there wasnβt time. #tlsky #edusky

Iβm slowly getting myself out of the Metaverse. Also need to work on breaking up with Bezos, so I went to storygraph today.
Finally got our new oven yesterday. The way that Best Buy scheduled with their contract delivery & installation was terrible, but now I can bake cookies.
