Climate justice in the Pacific requires decolonisation - liberation, land rights, and self-determination. Our region cannot be free or climate-resilient while colonial violence continues.

#COP30 may not have delivered the outcomes our region needed, but it has strengthened our calls for the world to aim higher.
The PICAN network will continue to champion pathways that protect our homes, cultures, and futures.

And thatโs a wrap from our tiny PICAN #COP30 team in Belรฉm, Brazil ๐ง๐ท.
Grateful to share updates, support Pacific delegations, and connect with amazing Pacific CSOs.
Stay tuned for our End Game analysis as we assess outcomes for Pacific Climate Justice. #PICANatCOP30
"There is nothing to celebrate. That is the truth. All we have done is to defer action, given room for growth for fossil fuels, redlined justice, and harmed the integrity of science. All we did was to create processes instead of delivering outcomes."

Ah yes, the universe reminding us, yet again, that the Pacific feels the impacts first. Even at COP. Even indoors. ๐
Heavy rain hit #COP30 & the Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion flooded, forcing cancellations and a cordoned-off spaceโฆ while everyone else carried on.

At COP30 in Belรฉm do Parรก, more than 50,000 people made history with a clear, unified message:
โIt is time to bury fossil fuels and build a clean, just future.โ
Today, we symbolically laid fossil fuels to rest. โ
While #COP30 continues in Belรฉm, PICAN is also in Vanuatu meeting with our Vanuatu node, VCAN, to support their work as they roll out their 2026โ2028 Strategy.
Our commitment has always been global advocacy AND strengthened regional resilience.
Day 2 at #COP30 and climate obstruction is on full display. Some countries are challenging science itself, pushing โalternative factsโ to weaken ambition.
But AOSIS, LDCs and the Pacific held firm: facts are not politics โ data is survival. We wonโt let delay win.

Day 1 at #COP30. Ten years since Paris, and once again, itโs the Small Islands leading the charge. As the world tracks toward 2.3โ2.5ยฐC, the Pacific and SIDS stand firm: 1.5ยฐC isnโt ambition or target. Itโs survival.

Across the Global South, communities are being displaced, ecosystems destroyed, and Indigenous lands exploited โ all in the name of a 'green transition.' This is climate colonialism, and it needs to end. Read more about this in our new Oxfam report: policy-practice.oxfam.org/resources/un...
๐จAnother UN report, another warning.
The new UN #EmissionsGapReport shows weโre headed for up to 2.5ยฐC of warming.
At #COP30, leaders must show courage, phase out fossil fuels, and deliver climate justice. 1.5ยฐC is still alive โ if we fight for it.

The Pacific is watching as Australia, and the worlds biggest producers, continue to profit from pollution while our islands fight to survive.
A little closer to home and the report exposes that Australiaโs ๐ฆ๐บ gas & oil production surged 77% - the biggest relative increase among the top 15 producers - driven by a doubling of gas.
The US ๐บ๐ธ drove 90% of the global increase in oil & gas extraction.
๐ +11 million barrels of oil equivalent per day from 2015 - 2024
๐ฅ More than 5x as much as any other country
Recent analysis by @oilchange.bsky.social shows that since the Paris Agreement was adopted in 2015, just four Global North countries derailed potential for global progress in phasing out oil & gas by collectively increasing their production by nearly 40 percent between 2015 and 2024.
The Pacific youth wave keeps rising ๐

PICAN and RMI representatives on the margins of the 54th Pacific Island Forum Leadersโ Meeting in Honiara, Solomon Islands.
At #54PIFLM, PICAN was grateful to meet with the representatives of the Republic of the Marshall Islands Govt.

Important directions for our region will be set in Honiara this week at #54PIFLM and civil society is here to ensure Pacific people shape the outcome.
Next week, the PRNGO Alliance is continuing its commitment to contribute meaningfully to regional governance and cooperation.
Preparations are underway for the #54PIFLM taking place next week here in the Hapi Isles ๐ธ๐ง.
We are kindly being hosted by the Solomon Islands Climate Action Network-SICAN team and partnering with them to deliver a number of events throughout the week.

234 industry lobbyists are in Geneva for INC 5.2! And this is likely to be a highly conservative number.
What weโre seeing across the plastics, biodiversity, climate and science spaces is a widespread fossil capture of multilateralism.
Sadly the same tactics used by blocker countries in the climate space is being employed here at #INC52.
These countries thrive in the grey area so we must continue to remind them of the mandate handed down by the UNEA 5/14 resolution!
FULL LIFECYCLE OF PLASTICS!
Is Shellโs PR team now running COP30โs media?!!! ๐คฏ
How can climate justice win when fossil fuel enablers hold the mic? Climate justice must not be allowed to be co-opted by the very industry behind our destruction!
A Shell-linked PR firm just won the COP30 media contract ๐คฏ๐คฎ
For Pacific Island peoples already facing the frontlines of climate collapse, this is a slap in the face. Climate justice cannot be co-opted by the very industry behind our destruction.
