a thing historians will marvel about when they study this era is the extent to which the "war is a thing that happens to poorer, browner people" class went about systematically dismantling every aspect of the global political order that confined the costs of war to poorer and browner people

speaking as glibly as Beavis & Butthead. does T***p even grasp the profound significance of what he has set in motion in the Middle East? this person whose most essential self is riding in a golf cart fatly, cheating at the profoundly insignificant game of leisure golf when he assumes no one is looking.

if โ€œfor sale, baby shoes, never wornโ€ are the saddest six words, then โ€œriding in a golf cart fatlyโ€ is the opposite of that

for those of you who werent adults during iraq, its hard to overstate how much the media loves war porn. they salivate over pentagon spin briefings. they love stories about all the bombs and how supposedly infallible they are. they love the notion of the commander in chief, in the situation room etc

Next president will have to rebuild the federal government while fighting a cadre of insane billionaires the whole way. The more bleak things get the more absurd it seems to consider electing some common weasel who wants to be president because he wants to be president

Please read this article to the end. Even before ICE got involved, this started because this *blind man who speaks no English and uses a curtain rod as a walking stick* got lost on a walk and some Karen called the police on him and they tasered and beat him bc he didnโ€™t drop the rod. WTF

The horror stories rolling in from Minnesota are just the tip of the iceberg. This 20-year-old, who's lawfully present in the country, was arrested for being Latino, then jailed in a filthy cell where he couldn't even sit down. 18 days of illegal detention. democracyforward.org/wp-content/u...

The state of U.S.-Canada relations aside (clearly the driving factor here), it is pretty abhorrent to see an otherwise liberal democratic leader flirting this hard with China, especially just days after they threw Jimmy Lai in prison.

A throughline for so much of the American political commentariat, from left to right, is the utter and total incomprehension that American actions have consequences.

They manipulate social trust and are creating lasting damage to our most basic social foundations

Anyone currently involved in federal immigration enforcement, every officer, every bureaucrat, every lawyer, every judge, is a member of the most evil group of people this country has seen since Reconstruction. Darkness personified, every one. Doing this to children is beyond depraved.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) โ€” Alberto Castaรฑeda Mondragรณn says his memory was so jumbled after a beating by immigration officers that he initially could not remember he had a daughter and still struggles to recall treasured moments like the night he taught her to dance.

But the violence he endured last month in Minnesota while being detained is seared into his battered brain.

He remembers Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pulling him from a friendโ€™s car on Jan. 8 outside a St. Paul shopping center and throwing him to the ground, handcuffing him, then punching him and striking his head with a steel baton. He remembers being dragged into an SUV and taken to a detention facility, where he said he was beaten again.

He also remembers the emergency room and the intense pain from eight skull fractures and five life-threatening brain hemorrhages.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man โ€œpurposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.โ€

What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldnโ€™t remember he had a daughter.

The federal government is stealing our neighbors and then slandering them, telling us our neighbors are dangerous criminals. They hate our neighbors because our neighbors aren't white and they want to cleanse the country of them, and then the monsters don't even have the guts to be honest about it.

Reminder that ICE facilities are supposed to be civil, not criminal. And yet they have been designed under Trump to be concentration camps so terrible detainees will choose โ€œvoluntaryโ€ deportation rather than continue living there.

This is evil. And history will view itโ€”and its participantsโ€”thus.

Springfield, too, has been given new life by immigrants. A once-thriving manufacturing hub, its fortunes so collapsed that in 2012 it was regularly called the unhappiest city in America. In 2014, seeking to stem population decline, the city launched its โ€œWelcome Springfieldโ€ campaign to attract immigrants. Haitians, many of whom had been given T.P.S. status after a devastating 2010 earthquake, responded. As new manufacturing jobs were created in the city, more immigrants followed. Many Haitians who settled in Springfield had children. The city stopped shrinking; in 2023, there was a tiny population increase.

Philistin had been a civil engineer back in Haiti and now worked refurbishing houses. He has two teenage children, both born in America. โ€œI donโ€™t know why they hate my community,โ€ he said sadly.
