‪Gecqua is totally a golden-tailed gecko imo, both secrete fluids from their tails! i think it's an interesting direction to, instead of making the water starter semi-aquatic, make it based off an animal that weaponizes liquid

it's been around for as long as dinosaur books have, sometimes because you have good illustrators with little reference for what a dinosaur is and a deadline or sometimes because you have a lil' photo library and are using images from the eighties in the 2000s lol

Ultimately it's an excuse to learn about Cool Organisms and is apparently surprisingly popular as scientific outreach in schools

basically the gist of it is that a selection of animals based on four "themes" are put in a tournament-style bracket and the scientists behind it decide which one is most likely to win ("win" just means "remains on whatever is determined the battlefield")
