The Day After Bud Billiken Day
Seeing pets on transit outside of dedicated/secured carrier devices is rapidly becoming one of my top 5 pet peeves
24-hr transit is importantβ Read how Montgomery County, MD can implement it for their residents, workers and visitors. Thanks to @ggwash.org for publishing!

It seems counterintuitive, but the bigger an agency is, the harder it can be to implement operational and technological change.
On a serious note, if internal data/modeling supports this, Iβm down, but I canβt remember anyone publically asking for thisβ the 330 on the other hand has been requested since I was a kid lol
Pace: βweβre extending a bus route to Midway Airport!β
Everyone: βthe 330?!β
Pace: βthe 315!β
Everyone: ???
Ironically probably a better terminal than Desplaines/Harrison or USTC, the MMF has so much more space
Western Massachusetts literally just implemented a system earlier this month, Link413, we could absolutely do this in Illinois
We could be great!
Insistence on 2PTO
Itβs a shame that we donβt all collectively know not to give this individual any airtime
Itβs 2 hours now, even with a double track, thereβs no way for it to be faster while still serving the HC stops.
Again, why the HC when the Lincoln service exists, has better rolling stock, will serve a larger passenger base and be just as fast if not faster?
A 3-hour journey in a gallery car on a line with no notable intermediate stops btwn Joliet & CUS, even if a xfer were built w/ the Orange Line, seems like a worse option compared to running more Amtrak trains, esp if rerouted via the Rock. Thereβs only one CR line in the US that exceeds 3hrs
1) Agreed on the overall potential, just skeptical of its use as a service to Midway
2) Despite that usefulness, I donβt think the HC will ever seen enough trains to justify building that transfer
Metra to Normal is a bit much, no? Also, why would Amtrak move to the RID? Thatβd require a new platform at Joliet and would take trains out of CUS
With the proposal of a 24-hr CTA Orange line, this is a good opportunity to revisit CTAβs OWL Network. The N55 ends at 55/St Louis. A 1-mi ext to Pulaski Orange provides both a xfer to the train & the newly-extended N53.
Itβs also worth exploring extending the N53 to Kedzie/63rd, for a xfer to N63
I did a little bit of work on this project :)
Iβd love to see Chicago adapt more quick-build facilities, although I can see the argument of using concrete if the costs are nearly identical
Iβm very skeptical that more than 3 people would be using a hypothetical 35/Archer Metra stop as a way to get to Midway from the Heritage Corridor line (and this is also assuming said line doesnβt remain complete dogwater)
Eh, itβs down there somewhere
Everyone should read this post from @nikhunder.com! An excellent deep dive on how we can improve bus service in Chicago

Donβt Toronto my Chicago!
- Beverly resident, probably
Looking at the proposed schedule for the Monon corridor on the SSL and the equipment moves that theyβre putting in as revenue service are hilarious
Side note: SSL is so close to being greatβ if only they could maintain consistent headways throughout the day
Dan Ryan especially, small toll on the outer lanes, convert the inner lanes to HOT, introduce south suburban Pace expy service, give an alternative to lackluster SWS Metra svc and the annoyingly located downtown terminal for the RIDA
Fremont-Palo Alto and Hayward-Hillsdale should be an every 20-30 mins daily bus service from 6a-9p minimum
Racineβs always been a chicken/egg scenario for me (and Iβve always wanted more done for the green line) but I wonβt be mad that itβs there.
Central is just, if we had to reopen a station, Kostner or California are still bad but better choices. Also, Forest Park rebuild when?
Central, in particular, is really shortsighted. Its 0.25mi catchment includes very few homes & the bus most likely to benefit from xfers, the 85, is unlikely to be extended since CTA no longer owns the Monitor turnaround. Having to walk 5 mins, across two expwy entries, to access buses feels unfair
Yes, youβre rightβ this was more a jest at the political greasing of hands that is now mandating two low-ridership stations to be re-opened. CTAβs stop spacing problem isnβt exclusive to its buses, imo
Just got back from the Bay Area, and while I have mostly positive things to say about the transit in the region, no weekend and stunted off-peak service across the bridges in the southern bay is astounding
Did someone let CTA know that Racine/63rd and Central/Congress were legally required to be reopened? Lol
Currently at a crossroads thinking about long-term plans and Iβd love to shadow a transit service planner sometime. Iβve been fascinated by service planning since I was a kid and learning more about their day-to-day work would be really helpful! ππΊοΈ
