To #highered colleagues interested in #authenticlearning - defining, critiquing, applying, or otherwise - please consider submitting to our Special Issue in Education Sciences. www.mdpi.com/journal/educ...
At some point, we will be forced to take a stance, so those sitting comfortably in the center will need to decide if they want to fight for a better system.
In another session that day- 'Leading Past Collapse' - led by Teri Balser, we discussed how unis might lead students through inevitable social and environmental collapse. Universities of course need to work within a social and economic context, but what if they had a role in shaping that context?
Great to hear Rowena Harper exposing the uncomfortable truths about the social, environmental and governance impacts of #genAI in her #HERDSA2025 keynote. How can #highered be proactive and lead in critical education, rather than reactive to corporate interests?
Excuse me, but wtf is this? I don't want 'an AI' anywhere near my stuff and I certainly don't want to listen to an AI-generated podcast about my stuff. Academia dot edu, get your shit together. #genAI #highered #academia
I'm so happy to see this out today, this was a truly fulfilling project with a great team.
"Paired with hype, AI becomes a technological bypass ... [promising] to return the world to a fantasized state of stability and abundance without demanding any form of individual or collective compromise."

So, folks, it is more important now than ever to #resist the #neoliberal mandates of individualism, to connect and gather our collective, diverse strengths. To use our privilege, if we have it, for good.
"All that was left was to strive for normality and wealth, in competition with all the other unwell workers". A favourite line from this excellent book. Highly recommended!
Controversial take alert: the idea that engaging and 'playing' with genAI, but in a scholarly way, will help turn the tide towards ethical use, comes across as both arrogant and naΓ―ve. You are still feeding an unregulated, energy-hungry beast. If you have a choice, be critical, but not complicit.
AND I'm a parent, unionist and COVID realist angry at our multiple systemic failings and an advocate for OHS and workers' rights. So, here I am. Hi. π (2/2)
