Poring over historical US jaguar records and arranging them in a timeline reveals most of the last females and cubs were in the Mogollon Highlands. This region, from Grand Canyon to the Gila - far north of the US/MX border - seems to have been jaguars' last remaining breeding population in the U.S.
The damโs controlling biological opinion from 2016 anticipated this; it promised to evaluate dam modifications to stop invasive fish entrainment. Now, ten years later, thatโs still not done. BOR needs a real plan for climate-inevitable deadpool and dam obsolescence โ for people and endangered fish.
