세상에 심오한 원칙 따위는 없었고, 내가 목격한 구멍투성이 세상이 곧 전부요 모두라는 걸 알게 될 때의 허무함이라는 것이 있다...

비슷한 기분을 최근 한국 삼권분립의 사법부에 대해서도 느꼈는데, 사법부는 선거로 선출하지 않는데 어떻게 견제하고 민주적 정통성을 담보할 수 있을까? 라는 질문의 답이, 결국에는 "견제할 방법이 없고 민주적 정통성도 사실 별로 없었다"로 귀결된 것이 매우 유감스럽다.

세상을 한참 배워나가던 어린 시절에 의아하게 여겼던 것들 중에 제네바 협약을 비롯한 국제법을 누군가 안 지키면 과연 어떻게 되는지였다. 내가 자고로 얻은 답은 결국 "전 세계의 무시무시한 반대와 비난에 직면한다" 가 전부였다. 그리고 세상이 그 정도로 주먹구구란 게 계속 드러나고 있어서 속이 쓰리다.
