NEW: Trans people centered themselves in a trans case before a very not trans court. Not only was Chase Strangio arguing Wednesday, but a trans plaintiff was in the courtroom, as were many other trans lawyers, journalists, and observers.

Khanβs op-ed is worth reading in full, if only to understand the full scope of the issues the FTC is reckoning with when it comes to AI. There are the privacy and business model issues above, along with concerns that too much AI power will be concentrated within a handful of companies; that AI will lead to price discrimination; that it will enable powerful new forms of fraud; and that it will automate discrimination. Thereβs no talk here about a rogue AGI exterminating the human race to create more paper clips, but maybe thatβs more of a Homeland Security thing. I joke, but itβs honestly encouraging to see the administration thinking this broadly about potential risks. AI industry executives and scientists are constantly warning about impending danger these days, and so itβs good to see the White House taking them seriously. Itβs also good to see Biden empowering agencies to take on an enforcement role, given the historically odds in passing any sort of national tech regulation.
AI execsβ big visit to the White House today makes me optimistic that the Biden Administration understands at least some of the risks of the industryβs exponential growth https://www.platformer.news/p/ai-visits-the-white-house
