Never mind the furniture. I'm looking at the reel-to-reel & gramophone.

Beat rising gas prices with this one weird trick.

Acquiring a share of Billy Bishop Airport…

Doug Ford fancies himself a billionaire desperate for a legacy.

On the taxpayer dime.

All while he tells students and their parents to go further into debt.

There's no end to Doug's hatred of our waterfront. Ontario Place, now this.

Yeah, that is dumb. Why does the government care about this?

NEW STUDY: β€œThanks to the influence of the road lobby, the harms of driving are underestimated & overlooked, while measures that make walking, cycling, & public transport the easiest option are viewed with suspicion. Policy responses to reducing population-level driving…can create positive change.”

My Dad, who'd enlisted to serve in Second World War, sat & listened to that song on my Woodstock album. He was impressed & we discussed the lack of clarity about the Viet Nam war compared to fighting Hitler.

RIP Country Joe.

A beautiful space. Also, Ron Thom's design is timeless inside & out. I've been all through Massey College & it still looks amazing. Funny that Modernists criticized it for being somewhat retro, yet it has held people's affection more than much pure Modern architecture.

I was joking. Many of my renting relatives lived into their 80s & 90s.

I can understand that overall renters have less access to healthy food & lifestyles as so many struggle to pay ever-increasing rents.

Summerhill may be the Bessarion of Line 1.

I like Summerhill if I've walked from downtown & get too tired to face the hill.

I lived thru '70s oil crisis. On corporate trip to U.S. we were told to dress for extreme heat 'cause they'd cut AC use. I remember weirdness of seeing casual office wear in the 1970s!

Also remember thinking at least it would show the folly of relying so much on oil. Young & naive I was.

Train brain is an expensive affliction in Canada Two days of my life are spent travelling 450 kilometres and back. That's just crazy in this day and age.

I took Via Rail from Toronto to Ottawa and back. Not a big deal, you would think, except it took up two days of my life and cost me hundreds of dollars on top of the ticket. lloydalter.substack.com/p/train-brai...

Time for some #TOHistory Monday

9 months ago I posted about the ruin on Highland Creek. I've know of them for many years, but knew nothing about them

This lead me down a rabbit hole of Scarb history, stagecoach robberies, theft and politics. All tangentially tied to this one ruin on #HighlandCreek

Painted cycle lanes are the non-smoking sections of today's urban landscape.

Both recognize a problem and the harms it causes, but are designed without the will or imagination required to implement a real solution.

I hated that I'd have showered, washed my hair, & put on nice clothes only to attend any event or dine out & come home with hair & clothes reeking of smoke.

Also remember shopping for clothes in a Montreal store & finding a couple of pieces with cigarette burns on them!
