OPINION: History is Upon Us
We are on the cusp of history with the debut of the Women's Pro Baseball League coming soon. Alberta and Saskatchewan could serve as leaders for the future.
“If you can see it, you can be it” is going to be lived in real time. The Women's Pro Baseball League is set to officially begin play in just a couple of months and our @joemcfarland.bsky.social has a few thoughts on how we could and should build our own talent pipeline. ⚾

I Don’t Recognize Alberta Anymore - Macleans.ca
My province has always fought with Ottawa. What’s new is a premier who gives legitimacy to separation.
Grew up in rural Alberta. Have spent all 43 years of my life in this province. Been very politically tuned in my entire adult life. Always thought of myself as small-c conservative. And now I’m feeling every bit of this Craig Baird editorial. #ABleg

Brazen revisionist lying here by Danielle Smith, blaming AHS for screwing up the procurement. She personally announced the purchase. At her behest, Jason Copping directly oversaw the contract and defended the high cost. This is from a March 20, 2025 Globe story by Carrie Tait and Alanna Smith.

And if you read the Free Alberta Strategy, we’re on step 3.5. Invariably Albertans will vote “yes” on all the referendum questions, then when the feds and other provinces don’t support it, UCP can say “they’re not listening to Albertans,” which opens the door to step 5: independence.

The Free Alberta Strategy
I’ve been saying this for a while and tonight is another example: we are on about step 3.5 of the 5-step “Free Alberta Strategy.” Alberta will vote for a bunch of changes, won’t get the support from other provinces, and then independence as a “last resort.” www.freealbertastrategy.com/the_strategy

A few reasons off the top of my head for AB to stay in Canada (in no particular order):
- Beautiful National Parks
- Cross-Canada research opportunities and collaborations (and funding)
- Canadian Forces
- Canada Border Services Agency
- National Sport Organizations
What’s on your list? #ILoveCanada

How can you not love listening to Stubby Clapp talk about baseball? Heck, grab me some cleats and a helmet and I’ll run through walls for that guy. Great show as always, Mike!

Braid: Is the UCP still a pro-Canada party? They might take a vote on it
At the top level of the UCP they're pondering whether to hold a vote on the party turning separatist
Good. Hold the vote tomorrow. Let’s get it out in the open and let the chips fall where they may. This whole sideshow is distracting from real issues in Alberta like health care, education, and even our upcoming budgetary concerns. Pitter-patter, please. #ABleg calgaryherald.com/opinion/colu...

‘You need to have a pressure release valve’: Alberta premier says separatists don’t want to join U.S.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith responded Saturday to comments by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent about Alberta separatists, saying she believes they don’t want to join the United States.
“She believes they don’t want to join the U.S.” OK. Let’s play hypothetical for a minute. We vote to separate. Goodbye to Canadian Forces (and the bases we have here). Goodbye to Canada Border Services Agency. Goodbye RCMP. And you think Trump will respect our independence? C’mon now. #ABleg

Opinion: Alberta's health-care system is failing under pressure
The real litmus test of a healthcare system is not how it functions on a regular day, but how it performs under pressure.
Any real leader would be jumping at the opportunity to address the province. All you’d have to say is “I’m aware of all the concerns and this is unacceptable. We will make all resources available to get the system back on track so every Albertan has trust in our health care system.” #ABleg

Anyone else just so very tired of this gong-show/dumpster fire known as “Alberta separation”? It’s honestly out of control. And the fact a bunch of cosplay cowboys are out there pretending to represent Alberta in the U.S. is absolutely embarrassing. When did we elect them to bargain? #ABleg

I mean, it's fun and all to watch them out trying to brag about their crowd sizes and all that jazz. But I just don't see the point of the effort, unless they're hoping to use their events to harvest the data from signatories for future reference. Anyone wanna help me out here? #ABleg

Because the way I figure it, didn't @lukaszukab.bsky.social do all their work already by putting a question on the table that all they need to campaign on is "vote no." Instead, they're trying to get their own question. Does that force the government to make a choice? #ABleg

OK, lemme play devil's advocate for a moment in a place that won't result in my notifications being inundated with ridiculousness. Let's just say for the sake of argument that the pro-separatists get the required signatures: are we having two referendums on separation? Help me understand. #ABleg
