I do this sometimes too! Especially, when my kids were tiny. They would be super interested when I was on a electronic device to write, but would ignore me when I had a pad of paper and pen. It was a lot easier to get work done.

Lavinia Fontana (1552 – 1614) was an Italian Mannerist painter active in Bologna and Rome. She is regarded as the first female career artist in Western Europe, as her family relied on her career as a painter. Her husband served as her agent and raised their 11 children. #CelebratingWomen

PHILADELPHIA!

Help Sarah, who you probably know better as the Squid Facts person, fund a biodiversity mural at an elementary school in Kensington.

If you can't afford to donate, reposts are just as helpful!

Devil's Bible.
Other Title

Codex Gigas
Summary

The Codex Gigas (or Devil's Bible) is a large 13th-century manuscript from Bohemia, one of the historical Czech lands. Renowned for its size and its striking full-page rendition of the devil (found on page 577), it contains a number of parts: the Old and New Testaments, two works of Josephus Flavius, Isidore of Seville's Etymologies, the standard textbook for teaching medicine in the Middle Ages known as Ars medicinae (The art of medicine), the 12th-century Chronica Boëmorum (Chronicle of the Bohemians) of Cosmas of Prague, and a calendar. Of special interest are the sections that testify to the Bohemian origin of the manuscript and its eventful history. At the end of the 16th century, the Codex was incorporated into the collections of Habsburg ruler Rudolph II. During the Swedish siege of Prague at the end of the Thirty Years' War (1648), the manuscript was taken as war booty and transferred to Stockholm.

A student asked about the biggest codex and you know what? I did know! It’s the Codex Gigas. But my favorite fact about this behemoth is that it took a lot of assesβ€”160 donkeys to be exactβ€”to produce this one book.

Now that is a true book assessment 🫏 www.loc.gov/item/2021667...

So, I went off chocolate cause my digestive system was sending out distress signals and....boy I did not expect the withdrawal symptoms. Nausea, body aches, weird headache. How do people even get off coffee? Insane! Good news: my digestive system is happy again.

Post from Amanda Gorman’s Instagram that says

amandascgorman
Minneapolis, Minnesota
For Renee Nicole Good
Killed by ICE. on January 7, 2026
by Amanda Gorman
They say she is no more, That there her absence roars, Blood-blown like a rose.
Iced wheels flinched & froze.
Now, bare riot of candles, Dark fury of flowers, Pure howling of hymns.
If for us she arose,
Somewhere, in the pitched deep of our grief, Crouches our power,
The howl where we begin,
Straining upon the edge of the crooked crater Of the worst of what we've been.
Change is only possible, & all the greater, When the labour
& bitter anger of our neighbors
Is moved by the love
* better angels of our nature.

Amanda Gorman wrote this poem for Renee Good and that’s it for me tonight.

They would have to convince us to do it and like....they suck at it. You think telling Democrats they are unhinged terrorists is going to make this work out for you? Hahahahahahahaha!

Thought this the other day. I was like if they are going for violent military take over? There is almost no way anyone can do it. The size of the territory, the terrain, the way people are situated. Not happening. They are absolutely insane if they think this is a possible reality.

I haven't been good at posting Latin recently but I made a card game where you have to use rhetorical devices to win and my family is like...wait...this is the perfect game for us! We would love this! So, there is much play testing in my future....

My photo collage shows four pottery vessels, all a creamy yellow in colour, with black painted decoration depicting underwater sea-life featuring lively stylised octopuses with writhing tentacles (arms), All on display at Heraklion Archaeological Museum, Crete.

Top L - Minoan pithoid storage jar decorated in the β€œMarine Style” with wide-eyes octopus, argonauts, rocks, and coral. Rounded top tapering down to a narrower base. Short cyclindrical neck flaring out at the mouth with black wavy decoration reminiscent of waves. Loop handles attached to the shoulders of the body. Height 55 cm. From Zakros. 1500-1450 BC

Top R - Minoan flask with a rounded body, short cyclindrical neck which flares at the rim, and two small curved handles attached between the top of the spout and the shoulders of the body. Decorated in β€œMarine Style” which depicts an almost cartoon-like octopus with wide eyes and sucker-lined tentacles which writhe around the vase. Other decorative sea-motifs include sea urchins, seaweed and rocks. Height 27cm. From Palaikastro, 1500-1450 BC

Bottom L - alabastron, broad at the base, swelling outwards into a fuller belly before narrowing near the top with a very short cyclindrical neck and a wider flat rimmed mouth. Decorated in β€œMarine Style” with a wide-eyed octopus among rocks. From Knossos Little Palace, 1450-1370 BC

Bottom R - krater with rounded body narrowing at the bottom towards the foot. Wide flaring mouth and rim with black painted wavy decoration, and two sturdy handles attached on each side between the top of the mouth and shoulders of the vessel. Decorated with a central very stylised wide-eyed octopus whose tentacles loop up and down around the body of the pot, 1370-1300 BC
