Along the north US Atlantic coast in places like Maine, the geomorphic impacts of ice in tidal marshes is well-documented. Ice is much less common in estuaries farther south - I wonder how it might impact some Chesapeake marshes in particular that are barely holding on.

For WNC and #Asheville - this Reddit post raised two good (and concerning) points that is related to a post-Helene infrastructure. #icestorm

The aurora is back in central PA, and surprisingly better than yesterday evening!

Rare purple and blue aurora early this morning over central PA! The lights were sporadic throughout the night, but this was by far the best part.

Black Moshannon is a great place if you don’t mind the drive. Toftrees or anywhere near the airport is probably one of the better spots in town though since it’s north of most the light pollution.

Faint #aurora is visible to the naked eye from central PA, despite a Bz of +51. If that flips negative, this could be quite the night!

Northern lights forecast: Aurora could reach as far south as Alabama Monday night Bundle up, because the northern lights are forecast to ignite in the winter sky on Monday night across a large area of the United States.

It will be a cold night for skywatching, but if it's clear, there's a good chance to see the #NorthernLights tonight!

Highest astronomical high tides of year (aka the "King Tides") will occur this weekend in NorCal. But this year, they will coincide w/additional storm surge from nearby low pressure--causing potential for SF Bay Area coastal flooding beyond what we've seen in recent years. #CAwx

Some false reports are circulating that Mt. Rainier is suddenly showing seismic tremor activity β€” this is not true. The signal being referenced is actually radio interference, most likely due to rime ice buildup on the antenna of one of our seismic stations.

The cloud forecast for Wednesday night when the Aurora Borealis is predicted to unfold. Even where the northern lights are not visible to the naked eye, smartphone cameras may still be able to capture pictures of the lights.

Clouds are predicted across most of the West Coast and interior Northeast, with fair to good viewing conditions forecast for much of the balance of the contiguous U.S.

Encore of the #NorthernLights?

Another CME is about to hit Earth with impacts likely to continue into tonight. SWPC is predicting it to be similar to last night with #aurora potentially visible in almost every state... where it isn't cloudy:

A great display of Undulatus Asperatus clouds over Pennsylvania yesterday. They can be tricky to photograph, but it helped that they hung around for hours.

September is the best month of the year, especially in terms of weather. The only drawback? We're losing too much daylight! www.accuweather.com/en/space-new...

This Sycamore is one of dozens of trees growing around the world that went to the Moon with Apollo14 while they were still seeds. It was planted in Hollidaysburg, PA to commemorate the bicentennial.
