You know that episode of Community when the realise the "minus" part of their grades was made up?
This article is like that, but for global governance - we are governed by statistical guesstimates, made to look much more precise than they are in reality.

What Goodwin's reaction shows is that reactionaries claim to talk for "the people" but truly hate the people and them having a say in how things should be run
It shouldn't surprise us that reactionaries are elitist and anti-democracy obviously and yet this has been obscured through skewed coverage

ABSTRACT
The Recovery and Resilience Facility of the European Union (EU) provided member states with funds to counteract the economic consequences of the pandemic and required the submission of national action plans. The EU developed guidance on how member states should apply for and use these funds, directing applicants to include a gendered analysis. While there is significant variation in the levels of gender awareness within the national plans, the Irish plan is notable in that it lacks any substantial engagement with gender considerations. Using document analysis and policy maker interviews, this article examines the causes and outcomes of this disengagement, exploring this puzzle of a lack of gender sensitive economic policy-making in Ireland. We examine why, despite direction from the EU, those charged with Irelandβs economic policy framework omitted any significant consideration of gender. Drilling down into a specific example of how gender considerations were marginalised in economic governance, we argue for understanding more about how the interpretive or cognitive lens that policy makers apply reinforces long-standing norms about what matters. We contribute to feminist political economic analysis of the EU and national policy-making, highlighting where the blockages to gender equality lie.
Why is it so hard to translate high-level committements into actual policy changes when it comes to gender equality?

Help us support Girlguiding and the Womenβs Institute to remain inclusive | Good Law Project
Weβre offering to defend the Womenβs Institute and Girlguiding against trans exclusion
Girlduiding and Women's Institute say the law forces them to exclude trans women. But that's not true.
We are offering to indemnify them against legal risk if they change course.
If they remain trans exclusive, their members can know it's management's ideological choice.

University of Nottingham plans to cut more than 250 jobs
Announcing the consultation, the university said it was a "critical moment for universities across the UK".
And there it is. A shocking, appalling, and deeply disappointing announcement of an entirely unnecessary move from the university.
But this is exactly why we have already started organising .
