Can we talk about Minneapolis affordable housing nonprofits flacking against an extension of eviction notice, flacking against folks having a little tiny breathing room so they may be able to get some support?
the abstentions are just insulting and cowardly
A note on SCOTUSblog, I am fully aware of the ownership by The Dispatch, a right wing news outlet.
I choose to list it a resource not to follow their commentary or even their analysis,
but they are a really valuable resource to understand the context and mechanisms of how these decisions are made

I respect Erin and what she does but she needs to be a better journalist or ask for help with the legal aspects of what she reports
a generous reading is she’s misunderstanding what’s happening and it’s causing confusion and panic
it could be said she is being disingenuous and engagement baiting
Informing parents of child’s mental health concerns or struggles with their gender identity or expression is not the same as MANDATING FORCED OUTING
it flattens the actual issue and distorts it to something it never was; all so her articles can continue to be shared around
In reality, the court upheld a lower court injunction for a policy (separate from and predating the SAFETY act) of a singular school district in CA
Mahmoud set a standard that blanket prohibitions on information sharing to parents would be unlawful.
This case is at worst, applying that standard
Her latest article and thread are a good example, as well as the one i referred to last night
Today she says a decision SCOTUS held today “could mandate forced outing of trans youth across America.”
this is panic-inducing, alarmist and just plainly not true.
Trans rights ARE undoubtedly under attack from various levels of state and federal government.
AND there is a lot of nuance that gets missed or ignored by Erin’s reporting specifically.
If we can’t talk abt how these issues actually impact ppl, we are doing them a disservice

Yesterday, we learned that House Speaker Demuth was seeking a order of protection. A week before that it was Sen. Gruenhagen. Before that Rep. Finke was facing a vile online pile-on. And we had Rep. Ilhan Omar attacked at a public event.
The threats cut across political lines but there are commonalities:
Women are one of the most common targets.
As are BIPOC, LGBTQ+, religious minorities (particularly Muslim and Jewish folks), and other folks who are from historically marginalized groups. Especially those at the intersections.
Last year, it was our Lt. Governor who received an alarming death threat. And we've seen Minneapolis CM's targeted, with former CM Koski citing it as a reason for her exit.
Many more go unreported.
In 2026 alone, I've had multiple calls with folks in leadership navigating these threats.
Policies alone can't fix this. We need a shared culture that clearly says: enough.
Targeted harassment and threats should have no place in public life.
If you see it, call it out.
The ability to freely and safely participate in public life is essential to democracy - let's recommit to that.
A year after the horrific assassinations in this state - a day that should have been a sobering inflection point - there are still those who don't take this seriously.
These aren't just isolated individuals, there are whole online networks of people who gleefully amplify and incite these actions.
Knowing the patterns is small comfort. But naming them is important.
And, it's personal. Like all of these folks, I've received both generalized and specific threats against me as an individual.
The organization I lead has seen our safety and security budget triple over the last two years.

Erin's framing of this is alarming. Let's be clear, this is not law. It is a poorly constructed legal interpretation. Therapists and mental health providers can and should still provide supportive treatment for trans Texans
This press release is the legal equivalent of this:

None of this is to detract from the impact this action DOES have on trans folks and their families in Texas, which is escalation and fear
The fear is real. Continue to treat people with care and support trans people in TX with your love and your wallet if you have the means

I don't want to put too much emphasis on the political antics of an AG who is launching a salvo at trans youth conveniently a day before Texans vote in a close primary.
That timing is far from coincidental.
And while troubling, this opinion is just that - an opinion - it is not enforceable law. 🧵
