Daughter, sister, mother, widow, and grandmother. I was an RN for 27 years & served on the Portland City Council for 12. I live in beautiful Portland Oregon. I like Portland Thorns, Oregon Ducks football, gardening, and cats, not necessarily in that order.

This is a beautiful tribute to a remarkable man who made a huge difference in North & NE Portland, and in many individuals’ lives including mine.

This is stupid. PreCheck speeds up security for everyone whether you have it or not. Global Entry is almost entirely automated, ditto. But don’t cave, legislators. Minor inconvenience for travelers is much less important than stopping murders and unjust detentions.

Super excited to score a ticket to the show April 3 at the Moda Center thanks to @lukefritz.bsky.social’s amazing ticket buying skills! The last great classic band I’ve not yet seen live that is still touring.

Oregonian post is paywalled - says she proposed allowing Councilors to carry guns. That’s what @ppbchief.bsky.social and his team do to protect City Hall, as they did when we had multiple violent protests under Charlie Hales and retreated to safe spaces many times. This is Portland. We are Portland

I am no fan of the person who briefly spoke for my district in Congress until @bynum.house.gov defeated her and truly represents our purple voters, but I’m sorry for her on this. Whether he’s guilty or not, it’s hard for her in a deeply personal way that’s now public. Politicians are people too.

I’m in the UK with my mother for her 96th birthday in a village of 800 homes in Yorkshire NE England. When she told the postmaster yesterday at the only local store that Andrew had been arrested, all three other customers cheered. Communities here can and will hold affluent people accountable. USA??

I am so very glad @oregonnursesassoc.bsky.social (I’m a 40-year dues-paying member this summer) helped elect @agdanrayfield.bsky.social. Our Attorney General is joining with others, sometimes leading alone to work for Oregonians and make us proud.

Avel Gordly, Oregon’s first Black woman state senator, dies at 79 β€œI know that my presence made a difference,” she said of her time in office. β€œI know that my voice made a difference.”

What an extraordinary legacy www.oregonlive.com/politics/202...

Senator Avel Louise Gordly was a gentle giant. She was unfailingly kind and supportive to everyone. A great loss for our community, all of which was hers and her legacy

Delightful weather today. They say prune roses on Presidents Day but it’s going to pour tomorrow plus compost pickup is in the morning so I had a great day pruning at my home and @lukefritz.bsky.social’s. I love pruning roses, an art and science aimed at maximum health and blooming. Yay Rose City!

Preschool For All is a good program. Multnomah County’s population grew by 0.2% last year. Washington County’s by 1.1%.

Yay! The project is needed to protect Metro area water purity for generations. Opponents have already added hundreds of thousands in delay costs for a project federally mandated under both D and R administrations, costs that will be paid by ratepayers

'Even in Russia, they don't treat children like this': A family's nightmare in ICE detention A Russian couple and their children sought asylum in the U.S. In a Texas detention center, they say they endured worms in the food and hourslong waits for medicine.

I interviewed a family of Russian asylum seekers who’ve been held more than four months at the Dilley detention center in Texas.

As we spoke over Zoom this week, their daughter Kamilla was one day shy of turning 12. I asked her what she wanted for her birthday.

She replied: β€œTo get out of here.”

Sharon Meieran: β€œDebating who should run before debating what needs to be done is like asking whose name should appear on the captain’s quarters of the Titanic. Who gets their name on the door isn’t as important as getting Multnomah County to actually help the people it’s supposed to serve."

We’ve invested millions in Leach, with Nick Fish (inner NE) & me (outer SW) securing funding for it. I thought district representation was supposed to increase advocacy for East Portland. What are @councilordunphy.bsky.social @counciloravalos.bsky.social Councilor Smith are doing about this?

my birthday was last week and if you didn't get me anything and you have stupid money you should give a donation to or become a member of the botanical garden in my disenfranchised neighborhood, they're in real financial trouble and need help

Should have said, Perhaps the reason the plan to build sidewalks in Districts 1 and 4 via debt financing *is delayed* is that in order to raise money through a bond, there has to be a source identified to pay it back and PBOT doesn't have revenue already dedicated

Yes, hard to watch. Perhaps the reason the plan to build sidewalks in Districts 1 and 4 via debt financing is that in order to raise money through a bond, there has to be a source identified to pay it back and PBOT doesn't have revenue not already dedicated? Regardless, inexcusable to abuse staff.

This makes me furious. The City, Prosper Portland and Metro have invested millions for improvements in the past 10 years with the goal of providing a signature draw in SE Portland. It’s not fair to expect volunteers to run it with no City funding. C’mon District 1 Councilors Dunphy/Avalos/Smith!

Ilia Malinin, the U.S. figure skater nicknamed the β€œQuad God,” became the first person to legally land a backflip on one skate in the Olympics β€” although one trailblazing woman pulled it off when the move was still forbidden.

The United States has more Spanish speakers than any other country in the world except Mexico. The Spanish language and Latin American culture are fundamental parts of American culture. Bad Bunny’s halftime show was as American as any other.

The Super Bowl commercials are almost all boring, confusing or meaningless. Can’t remember most of the brands, which often come on only in the last seconds. The Budweiser one with the Clydesdale being friends with the eaglet is the best so far imo. Did AI rather than humans create most of them?
