It is not uncommon that when asked to list reasons for wanting to be of the opposite sex, young children with GID will provide concrete advantages. As an example, one 8-year old boy with GID asserted that it would be better to be a girl because they have better bands, such as the Spice Girls (Zucker & Bradley, 2004). The extent to which a child engages in sex-typed behaviors typical of the opposite sex and their rejection of activities and clothing typical of their own sex can be construed as surface indicators of gender dysphoria. Some children may experience discomfort with their sexual anatomy, which serves as another indicator of their felt gender dysphoria.
This is, in sum, not only wrongheaded, but historically illiterate. As late as 2012, people refused to distinguish between effeminate boys and gender dysphoria. This is a literal dissertation from that time arguing that liking the spice girls counted:
