When we had a councilmember with mysterious spending habits the CM was censured, his case went to the state, he was fined and he can't ever run for office again unless he pays the fine.

With our federal representative we accept his excuses, there are no consequences and we keep paying him.

What’s notable about this for me is the guy is with the Danish People’s Party, a hard right anti-migrant party. Aka Danish Trumpism

No international right wing unity. These parties are smeared by association with Trump’s policies while not getting the benefit of an int’l supporter

There’s hope

Poll from pro-Nashville Fairgrounds group finds opposition to NASCAR on site β€’ Tennessee Lookout A recent poll of Nashville voters on potential uses for Fairgrounds Nashville and found a majority of respondents oppose NASCAR races.

Turns out, when you ask people β€œdo you want expensive land in the middle of a city with a housing crisis to be used for a loud, high pollution and dying sport that already has a track 30 minutes away?” the answer is β€œno.”

Shocking

A listener called into Hannity’s show to discuss their child’s cancer diagnosis and advocate for cancer research funding: β€œWith the lack of funding, basically, all you get is parents like me who have had a kid with this, starting organizations and coming up with money to carry on the research for them. So that's why I wanted to call and … advocate for research.” Hannity responded by arguing that β€œmost of the solutions for cancer are going to be found in the private sector, not with public money.” The caller noted that β€œwith such a small number of kids getting this [cancer diagnosis], yeah, it's definitely something that doesn't get looked at as much.” Hannity responded that β€œeven if the government spent … $300 million on this particular cancer tomorrow, it's not going to be your answer.” [Premiere Radio Networks, The Sean Hannity Show, 2/12/25]

…Any Republican saying they are different is lying. And Dems need to start acting like it. Tie these bills to all GOP politicians, supporters of the bill itself or not. Because even if they are opposed, voting for them emboldens and produces these bills, so there’s no practical difference.

…which is to say, in essence, a vote for Charlie Baum is a vote for Monty Fitts and his vaccine lettuce. A vote for Mark White is a vote for Ed Butler and his pro-domestic violence bill…

…Barrett, Fitts, Capley, Cepicky et al do not see any reason to restrain themselves. They have no reason to moderate, all are in safe districts. But if they start losing colleagues (and therefore their voting margins), that gives them their only real incentive to stop…

And a big part of why they didn’t lose is because many Republicans in swing districts know how to come off as β€œreasonable” and win what are (or should be) close seats. Gillespie, Sparks, Baum, Burkhart, etc.

Because none of them lost, both the leadership and lunatics like…

Because, after acting fools and causing statewide outrage in β€˜23 and β€˜24, not a single Republican lost their seat in 24’ in Tennessee at the Federal or State level. Put another way, the lesson they took from 24’ is that there are no consequences for them and they can pass whatever they want…

…Leadership is sponsoring an unconstitutional bill to ban undocumented kids from public schools. One legislator is banning doctors from asking battered spouse if there are guns in their house. Another wants to ban pride festivals?

Why? Why are we getting these bills proposed and passed.

There are no reasonable Republicans in Tennessee, a thread.

In TN, the Legislature just passed vouchers. They just passed an expensive immigration bill with an unconstitutional provision persecuting legislators for voting on bills…
