Cardinals sweep Twins to open season: 3 takeaways from 3 wins Pedro PagΓ©s helped lead an offensive barrage as the homer-happy Cardinals scored 19 runs in the series.

"Every at-bat is a damn dog fight."

The #STLCards hammered out 19 runs in 3 games. It's a small sample size, sure, but there is a clear difference in the quality and approach of the team at-bats.

In acquiring Phil Maton, Cardinals add coveted bullpen depth

In signing Phil Maton, the Cardinals believe they’ve found a durable setup option along with the experience they've been coveting.

Six right-handers β€” Nick Anderson, Gordon Graceffo, Kyle Leahy, Roddery MuΓ±oz, Riley O’Brien & Chris Roycroft β€” are competing to round out the #STLCards bullpen, the team's biggest strength last year.

Can they replicate that success?

From #STLCards PR: Jordan Walker was removed in the third inning of the Cardinals split-squad game against the Nationals with left knee pain. He will undergo further evaluation.

I am not in Jupiter this week, but it appears Walker tweaked his knee tracking a fly ball in the bottom of the second.

There have been no talks of an extension, Helsley (a free agent after this year) said, though he understands how the looming changes in leadership factor into these decisions.

Still, "I would love to stay here. ... β€œI would definitely be open to (an extension), but it has to be both ways."
