I've exchanged messages with the authors, and it's all pretty much basic strategy. And they also did not have a lot of time to write it, IIRC.

The Emperor has arrived.
Inspired by Crusader Kings III: All Under Heaven, this noble Emperor Platypus stands robed in dynastic splendor, a ruler worthy of any throne room.

Now, two loyal subjects shall have a chance to claim him.

Love to send blind emails like "You don't know me, but I know your work etc..." and to get an enthusiastic reply back offering to help with our little thing.

Great way to end the week.

Funny thing, I googled the name of this type of shelf and the top result was a 15 dollar guide on how to build one.

So this might be a popular solution.

Today, the internet showed me the perfect shelf, but it is $2300 and there is also no way it will go up my stairs.

Once I am done my morning edits and everyone at HQ has gone home for the weekend, I need to give my office a good cleaning and sorting.

My files are a bit of a mess, but that is a weekend job, aside from getting all the tax docs out. Floors and surfaces, today. Maybe take some measurements.

Names of Athenian Triremes: Investigating Group Cohesiveness and Social Identity in the Athenian Navy of the 4th Century BC - Journal of Maritime Archaeology The set of inscriptions known as the Naval Inventories of Athens (IG II2 1604–IG II2 1632) provide a wealth of information regarding the state of the Athenian navy in the fourth century BC. The inscri...

I guess I didn’t wake up thinking I needed to know the names of the 279 named triremes ⛵️in the 4th century BCE Athenian navy, but it appears we all do. link.springer.com/article/10.1... I do like that 3.58% had animal names like Λεοντῆ (lion skin) and Λέαινα (lioness). Greek epigraphy is fun! 🪦

Kalshi employees "kind of understand that without the tweets and the streamers and all of the social-media stuff that the traders do for them, usually just for free, their marketing would be a lot harder," said Jack Campion, 20, a junior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a Kalshi affiliate.
In September, Kalshi briefly signed up a 15-year-old videogame streamer who goes by vertid online to promote its brand on X as an affiliate.
A week later, Kalshi ended the partnership.
"Yo brother, legal team confirmed that we can't work with minors rn," a Kalshi employee wrote to the user in messages reviewed by the Journal. "Kinda sad tbh."

adventure games from the 80s were intentionally designed to be tricky, mean and occasionally counterintuitive so that you could get stuck for long periods of time. this was called “value for your dollar”

It has been a very rough last few weeks, and I’m glad this one is almost over. Some things to look forward to next week, but also other stressful things.

I need to think about a mini-vacation. And baseball.

More and more, it feels like the lack of dangerous opposition is allowing Doug to be his most Doug-like self, which is to say, someone who once proposed a Ferris Wheel and a monorail for the Toronto Portlands

That was a part of it, for sure, and may have been the difference maker in a close election, as it was. Probably cost Poilievre his seat in Parliament.

But there are a lot of things going on in Canadian politics that are about Canada. Poilievre tanked hard, and it wasn't all Trump.

Bought a new computer last summer, and my much savvier partner insisted I double the RAM "just in case".

She saved me hundreds of dollars.

Like, the only big things JT has in common with his much more left-wing father are sleeping with celebrities and using emergency powers in a political crisis.

05.03.2026 18:08 👍 6 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

A lot of folks overseas bought the Rebel News/National Post line that Justin Trudeau was a dyed-in-the-wool leftist. Carney is more conservative than Trudeau, but it's not a huge shift! This is not Corbyn/Starmer or Schumer/Sanders.

JT was a milquetoast centrist with "vibes".

05.03.2026 18:03 👍 5 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Carney continues to rise in the polls, so maybe he wins an election in spite of his cost cutting and wavering on his elbows-up stuff.

But a vote for Carney is still a vote against the Conservatives, and Alberta's nonsense is making it very hard for Poilievre to campaign strong nationally.

05.03.2026 18:00 👍 4 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Carney was not a "move to the center" in any ways beyond an austerity budget that Trudeau would have been equally equipped to introduce.

05.03.2026 17:57 👍 9 🔁 1 💬 2 📌 0

This completely misrepresents what happened in Canada. Carney's win was fueled by being a fresh face after Trudeau, a reputation for competence, belief he was best suited to stand up to the USA and the deep loathing of Poilievre in large parts of the country.

And it was still a minority!
