More. I was at a restaurant where I'd been interrogated about my andouillette order and I asked how bad the issue was - the guy said "10 leave the kitchen and 10 come back" and that's after going through the "are you sure? are you really, really sure? have you eaten it before?" process

there's a real shortage of engineers. Apprenticeship system is hard to engage with and construction has its own issues - short term contracts with steep penalty clauses make apprenticeships less attractive and can lead to staff being pulled off them and into FT work

If states do withdraw from insurance and reinsurance, some of the most lucrative areas of the US, Canada, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia will be devastated: no mortgages and no banks, leading to more ghost towns and villages. β€˜It ends with depopulation and abandonment,’ said Agarwala. β€˜Climate change reduces the operating space for humanity.’ In the UK, rising sea levels and coastal erosion could literally reduce operating space, putting 200,000 British homes at risk by 2050. There’s no coastal-erosion insurance, which puts more burden on the state, mainly to pay for new defences, but also to help people move.

this is really good but primarily focuses on the impact on insurance coverage from climate. Throw in population ageing & geopolitical fractures and the whole thing looks even shakier.

Our models of society and economy aren't built for this and won't survive as they are

Unless the govt is going to increase employment in the public sector directly it needs to think more about job creation. Start with the jobs and build pathways to them rather than just push people into the labour market and hope they get hired

NHS in England to be set targets on getting people back to work Ministers also planning to link patient data to benefit claims and employment statistics

Whether this succeeds depends on the ability of local economies to create good, accessible work

At the moment there's a reduction in hiring, a lack of entry level jobs and work is becoming more intense for those in employment

Labour battles disaffection in crucial three-way by-election Activists fear coming third to Greens and Reform, which have both run energetic and populist campaigns

It's the constituency next to mine and the Labour candidate is one of my councillors so I've tried to keep up with it but I'm not sure I've seen great reporting so far, especially from people who don't know the area and how it's been changing

this was good though

where algorithmic tools can work it's clear that management needs to adapt to ensure they're used well - workers can feel empowered to take on new tasks in areas they're not expert in and that has knock on effects - and risks!

I do understand why this happens though as the gap between on and off the record language is only ever going to reduce trust - someone is being less than truthful. That's probably in the gift of MPs to be braver on the record or more moderate off. Angry rants accompanied by inaction aren't helping

We're paying for a lot of social care through the welfare system and trapping many people in situations where their income is below the living wage. This is exploitative

A good reminder about how good social care liberates people.

Seeing it purely as a mechanism to enable patients to be discharged from hospital diminishes it but too often that's the focus of policy discourse

UK ministers shrink funding package for community power projects GB Energy to spend two-thirds less than planned on supporting development of solar panels and heat pumps
