Every so often, I get that Sisyphean urge to look at Langrisser III speedrun routing. This current iteration has me legitimately wondering about an early game grind. For 90+ minutes straight.
On one hand, I hope I'm right because it means I'll have finally made progress. On the other...
Bad (3/3):
- Echika/Forte: Massive writing focus for such utterly boring characters
- A. Advent bridge cut-ins are atrocious (I miss the Cygnus)
- Constant Godzilla hype to be almost completely irrelevant
- Mission structure continues to be a mistake
Overall: Recommendation still stands. Play V/X.
Bad (2/3):
- Control scheme is completely borked
- Enemy HP bloat is real
- Constant "+x% final hit rate" enemy skills at the end (bad Winkysoft flashbacks)
- Some design decisions that still feel purposely anti-speedrun
- "We'll stop you with FRIENDSHIP" gets really old after the first ten times
General thoughts on the game:
Good:
+ Refreshingly difficult early on
+ Duo's cut-in animator deserves a raise
+ Allenby, Kallen, and Lunamaria all exist
Bad (1/3):
- Far too long/repetitive
- Not keen on most of the series list
- Mid/late game difficulty didn't exist
- Final boss (A) is worse T

Wasn't Uniracers like this? Never actually finished the game myself, but I thought the last course set (and therefore ending) was locked behind gold medals on everything. Could be wrong.
This is a super hard question if you don't count good/true endings. Interesting food for thought.
Trying to make a point to complete my first playthrough of SRW Y, but holy heck, the slog levels are unreal.
I'm well over 100 hours in, and story-wise, I'm probably not THAT close to the end. I have a side mission backlog to infinity.
Every map is the same, but with inflated HP punching bags...

Picked this up during the trip. The Pizza Girl side speaks to me, so I knew I had to get it.
An amusing bit about this Langrisser OST set:
There are five out of six discs dedicated to the first two games, but only one for III. There are multiple songs that most people probably won't ever hear, because you'd need to leave battle animations on to hear them. Nobody should ever do this.
Heading home tomorrow. I'm noticing that I seem to be getting diminishing returns from the Japan trips.
Still good overall, but last time it was like "three weeks is too long." Now it's like "two weeks is too long."
With enough iterations, I might end up doing a U-turn in the airport. 🤔
Today I noticed an "all you can eat" option on the order page. I'm going to assume this is a mistake, because if it isn't, they've met their worst nightmare.
Luckily for them, I go back to Tokyo tomorrow. :[

The one good thing I'll give this store is that it wasn't doing the standard bad store thing: playing old game music at the entrance.
Passed a store doing this and didn't even so much as peek. A couple other people stopped though.

It's time for one of my favorite routines: hating on Super Potato!
I walked into one just to remind myself why they suck, and I wasn't disappointed. They had a copy of Der Langrisser FX behind glass.
The price was ~50% higher than Mandarake, which was already not ideal (9900 vs 14000+).
Made it to Osaka and immediately made my pilgrimage to A Pizza.
They added a drink requirement since I was last here. It's for orders after 4 PM, but they pushed it on me at 3 PM for some reason.
A little unfortunate, but certainly not enough to keep me from going there repeatedly.
Ended up going back for smaller scrolls to complete the set, and answered my own question. Seems like the 10% discount was an initial opening thing, so I didn't get it again.
The big lines make more sense now. Learning! o/
Got my haul from the initial line up. All four towels, a card box, and one of the huge scrolls. Not sure why stands are such a popular item, but I guess they are cheap to make?
Also received a 10% discount for some reason. Wasn't a tax thing either. Is that an opening perk?
Just for the heck of it, I added up how much it would cost to buy one of every item offered in this shop: $777. Nice.
I obviously won't do this, but it would be amusing to see the look on the cashier's face. Followed by them laughing as I try to carry it all.

Finally got around to properly playing a bit of the PSX Langrisser IV copy I picked up a couple years ago.
I knew they gave it the awful battle system from V, but it's a bummer to learn that they also fixed the bug that made V's speedrun neat AND the bug that made IV's run less annoying.
Big oof.

In all seriousness, I'm still mildly annoyed about the stage 5-2 stag beetle. The ones in stage 1 and stage 3 are right where they should be, but I've never seen the 5-2 beetle. I've been had, and I don't even remember how I heard about them. >:[

I've restarted my billionth Baldur's Gate 2 playthrough. None of them have ever gotten past Chapter...3? This time I've installed a bunch of mods though, so surely this time! (Doubtful.)
The default ultra slow movement speed wasn't mixing well with how quickly I get bored with games recently. :[
I finally figured out how to set up a super basic RAM watch in Bizhawk. I've skimmed the TAS Videos guide multiple times, but it somehow never clicked until tonight. It's really not THAT hard, but it just wasn't computing.
