Who would have thought that a social psychology concept about our connections to media figures would be so prevalent in our lexicon that it would be word of the year?!
@bradleyjbond
How do entertainment media narratives affect audiences? I want to know too! Media psychology scholar at the University of San Diego. Avid fan of 80s situation comedies. Can't live without Yorkies or jelly beans.

Very happy to contribute to Efua Andoh's piece on teens use of AI chatbots for social connection in 'Monitor on Psychology.' Check it out!
We're talking about the relationship between media and government in my Disney and society course today. Always appreciate the chance to talk about case studies as they are unfolding.
All of the people thinking, "What would I buy them as a wedding present?" "What will she wear?" "I wish I was invited." You are why I study what I study. 🤓
Learn about the queer film festival that I'm involved with here in San Diego. Come to our films! Become a sponsor! Support LGBTQ+ representation in a time when queer people *and* the arts are being threatened. 🌈
Excited for the start of Comic-Con 2025! What are you most looking forward to at the world's biggest convention of comics and the popular arts?
I know 'The Handmaid's Tale' has fallen out of the Academy's favor, but Elisabeth Moss was incredible in the last season. Robbed, I tell you!
Fantastic report from the @geenadavisorg.bsky.social on the state of disability on scripted television, aptly released in disability awareness month!
@usdcomm.bsky.social at @icahdq.bsky.social 75th annual conference!
@icahdq.bsky.social’s 75th annual conference is underway, complete with a bear in an ICA tie and a yeti, because why not?
Representation matters! Props to Cole Escola for the Bernadette Peters nod with that look.
I would kill for any one of the 24-hour "news" networks to have one hour dedicated to short, objective news stories without any interviews or guests. @msnbc.com? @cnn.com? No? I didn't think so....
I do not care if this is true or not, someone write the screenplay and turn it into a movie. Call it fiction. I just love this so much. 😂👸👨🎤
Very true. Fantastic cinematography, great acting.
Entertainment media serve as a window to the world. Conclave is no longer just a movie, but a lesson in "what's next" for so many, regardless of its accuracy or authenticity.
So I was today year's old when I learned Academy voters don't have to watch nominated movies to vote on those nominated movies?!? Call me naive, but... seriously?
Big fan of the @geenadavisorg.bsky.social and love that they are name-dropped here. More frequent, more diverse, and more authentic female characters can be difficult to produce, but sometimes it is indeed just as easy as rewriting a character.
The power of celebrity is often brought to light in sensitive self-disclosures, particularly those related to health. I hope Dane uses his voice to bring more awareness to ALS. Sending good vibes to him!
Mid-Century Modern is a classic 90s sitcom trying to succeed in 2025. Playing to queer stereotypes worked for Mutchnick on 'Will & Grace,' and it brought LGBTQ rights into the mainstream. But will it still work today? I'm intrigued. And I do laugh out loud while watching--so maybe?
“Are theatres on the endangered species list?” is a favorite topic of mine to discuss with students. Good insights here.
