I genuinely thought blowing out the innards of the egg was a bit that I didn't understand.
Back when there was in-game tracking for total damage dealt to the heart from all players, and it was only 5 or 6 digits long...
Final Fantasy 6, Cave Story, Undertale, FTL, Mario Kart 64, Super Meat Boy, Ultima Online, Spelunky, League of Legends
Feels bad leaving off some of my all-time favorites from this perspective, but e.g. OneShot didn't quite change my life trajectory or understanding of games quite the way these may have:
I've got plenty of other rather distinctly not-AI quirks to my writing anyway โ if spelling "though" as "tho" was good enough for Ada Lovelace, it's good enough for me!
For us, a story.
Like thousands of other stories.
But we'll always remember these splinters,
and it'll... be alright.
(...A full decade later, and I'm still in tears recalling that enough to type out! <3)
Even true of games that aren't light as well โ FTL has a long history of players dismissing it as needing too much luck to win (including myself when it first came out!), when the reality is the best players can win 98%+ of the time on Hard.
A bipedal red fox paints a rainbow across the sky. They have a determined look on their face. To the right of the rainbow are segments of text from newspaper articles about grim news for LGBTQIA+ folks, especially trans folks. On the left, there are flowers on the ground, with butterflies flittering about. The discouraging words are illegible faint smudges. Artist: BriarhideIllust
Persist against all odds
Heads up that the Larimer QR-Code goes to a broken Airtable link for me. (The Weld QR works fine.)
Sounds true to its roots โ the one time I played the 1985 version, I utilized my mech's Jump Jets to do what seemed like a basic reposition. I promptly landed off-target, broke a leg in the landing, and fell into a lake.
Older brawling videogame screenshot modified to show the player character punching a cake
What if my scale is ostensibly "1-10", but I use .5s, except I don't use 0.5 or 1.5, so it's secretly an 18-point scale in disguise?
Roguelikes eventually taught me: post-death inventories full of Scrolls of Teleport & Potions of Healing start looking mighty foolish after a while.
Was then also kinda neat replaying Chrono Trigger: I ran from everything -> very underleveled -> I actually used Megaelixirs against non-final bosses!
I use an extension "YouTube Search Fixer" which hides some of the unrelated diversion garbage, improving the search quality from 2/10 all the way up to 3/10!
Can confirm โ I've been streaming semi-professionally over a decade, play 100 games a year, and my _curated_ backlog is still about 130 games right now...
Important to be able to reseal it after eating two of the 15 total chips in the bag
I'm moderately compelled towards idle/incremental games, so I've played nearly 100 of them โ but ultimately I don't find them satisfying and often just kinda feel bad afterwards, so out of all of those the only one I actually recommend is Orb of Creation.
Tho I do remember the first time I grudgingly admitted than an mp3 sounded better than the midi version โ it was Time's Scar from Chrono Cross.
The IRC friend that had sent me the mp3 was so baffled that this was somehow surprising to me ๐
Me in 1999: "Napster", huh? I don't know why I'd care about that, I have all the Final Fantasy midi files I could want already
Really, we just need to manifest a Dropout version of Taskmaster.
I'm a historically picky eater who also recently went vegetarian but could manage many things okay under the right circumstances. Clearly I need to assign a decimal value to every entry on a scale factoring in as many qualifiers as possible.
I did hear one of the smaller names talk about it a bit: they were asked, and at least in their case it resembled a normal Voice Acting situation.
So multiple versions given, asked to re-do a jokey word "meow" with an actual meow sound, and gave meows for a few different emotions/situations.
Tho notably the actual length of the Curator review on Steam itself is still capped at like 200 characters.
Been streaming over a decade, play 100 different games every year, don't even like several genres or big-budget games so ignore them entirely, only finish half of what I try... yet I still have a *curated* backlog of over 150 interesting games.
Oh but that's the secret bonus: Coal *also* provides us with plenty of free American Radiation at no extra charge!

Easy to check if you're unsure โ turns out I was registered as independent, so I went ahead and fixed that.
(I'll also note that I had trouble with the Captchas in Firefox but it worked fine in Chrome.)

I'm amused that this is Mark Brown's only credited game, because nobody has added the credits for Mind Over Magnet to Moby's database yet.
This is gonna be the reason you don't become a decamillionaire, Peter. This and the beverage center.
Still more meaningful than "adventure" ๐
