The #ScottishBudget is a critical opportunity for politicians to rebuild trust by acting on the issues that matter most to people in Scotland, like child poverty. We are calling for the Scottish Government to build on whatβs already working by increasing the Scottish Child Payment to Β£40 a week.

It is deeply concerning to see once again no mention of the Wellbeing Economy in the Programme for Government. We need to move away from short term thinking and sticking plaster solutions. We need an economy that will improve the wellbeing of people in Scotland, now and in the future.
Today's #ProgrammeForGovernment falls short of what we need to create a #WellbeingEconomy in Scotland where everyone can thrive.

By taking an axe to underfunded welfare programmes, the UK Government's Spring Statement is repeating the mistakes of the past.

Itβs deeply concerning to hear of cuts to social security ahead of todayβs Spring Statement. Social security should be a safety net and spring board to support all of us when we need it. Right now itβs failing. We need an economy that is centred on justice and compassion where everyone can thrive.

The UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer looks off camera. A screenshot of a headline from the Independent is on top: Benefits cuts - live: Fury over 'immoral and devastating' reforms as Labour slash Β£5bn off welfare.
π¨ Todayβs announcement is alarming.
Itβs true, our social security system needs an urgent update.
But cutting disability benefits is not the way to fix it.
Disabled people are already three times more likely to face hunger. Huge cuts risk pushing more people to food banks.

The proposed cuts to disability benefits are unacceptable and immoral, full stop.
And if the big cuts come from PIP, the impact on the SG's budget will also be massive.
The next SG will have to cut disability payments too or fill the gap and find the money on a fixed budget.

"In a just and compassionate Scotland, everyone should have the opportunity to thrive. But right now people are struggling as we face increasing financial and environmental crises caused by our outdated economic model. We need to include the people of Scotland in the conversation about how we redesign our economy so that it delivers social justice on a healthy planet. We need a Wellbeing Economy." Aileen McLeod, Director, Wellbeing Economy Alliance Scotland
π’ New report out now highlights how our economy is failing the people of Scotland.
We joined voices with leading academics and economists to call for the people of Scotland to have more of a say in the decisions that impact their lives.

Yesterday's #ScottishBudget brought some welcome measures that are a step in the right direction.
But we must move beyond expensive sticking plaster solutions and use the full budgetary powers to enable our communities to thrive.

Tax Justice Scotland. Fairer taxes can help combat deep inequalities in Scotland and help deliver a healthier, more inclusive economy.
Imagine a Scotland where every child grows up free from poverty. Where our hospitals/schools have the resources to care for all, where weβre tackling the climate crisis head-on.
A fairer tax system can help make it a reality.
That's why we're backing #TaxJusticeScotland

At a time when energy prices are already unaffordable for many and household budgets are under increasing strain, many breaking, this is very concerning.
It is unacceptable that right now people are struggling to afford the essentials just to survive. We need to see systemic, lasting change.

π¨ 122,000 emergency food parcels were provided by food banks in the Trussell community in Scotland in just 6 months.
1 in 3 of these were for children.
No child in Scotland should be facing hunger - we need urgent action to address this & ensure everyone can afford the essentials
