We spoke about need for investment in social security & long-term funding for advice services, including support accessing #ChildMaintenance

The #ScottishBudget is a critical opportunity for politicians to rebuild trust by acting on the issues that matter most to people in Scotland, like child poverty. We are calling for the Scottish Government to build on what’s already working by increasing the Scottish Child Payment to £40 a week.

It is deeply concerning to see once again no mention of the Wellbeing Economy in the Programme for Government. We need to move away from short term thinking and sticking plaster solutions. We need an economy that will improve the wellbeing of people in Scotland, now and in the future.

Today's #ProgrammeForGovernment falls short of what we need to create a #WellbeingEconomy in Scotland where everyone can thrive.

It’s deeply concerning to hear of cuts to social security ahead of today’s Spring Statement. Social security should be a safety net and spring board to support all of us when we need it. Right now it’s failing. We need an economy that is centred on justice and compassion where everyone can thrive.

🚨 Today’s announcement is alarming.

It’s true, our social security system needs an urgent update.

But cutting disability benefits is not the way to fix it.

Disabled people are already three times more likely to face hunger. Huge cuts risk pushing more people to food banks.

The proposed cuts to disability benefits are unacceptable and immoral, full stop.

And if the big cuts come from PIP, the impact on the SG's budget will also be massive.

The next SG will have to cut disability payments too or fill the gap and find the money on a fixed budget.
