I like that this fairly compelling idea, which would have been pretty much the *only* idea you'd get from an entire season of modern tv, was just some of the spaghetti they were throwing at the wall as part of these 20+ episode seasons

it wasn't even THAT good of an episode, I personally liked it a lot but it was one of the earlier ones where they hadn't quite gotten their legs under them yet. the writing is a little weird and disjointed in spots and the ending was obviously rushed.

but I kinda adore that too actually?

I just watched an early TNG episode called "The Contagion" and there was all this lore building about this ancient advanced civilization, and it turns out that any contact with their surviving technology will corrupt your own tech as it tries to correct and overwrite what it sees as errors until your ship has a catastrophic malfunction and after a while I had this moment of deep weariness that I didn't even realize I was feeling, until I realized the episode was two thirds over and it wasn't the first of a two-parter or anything and I realized that what I was feeling was the anticipation of being drip-fed more lore about the ancient aliens over the course of a whole season that gradually raises the stakes until the whole galaxy's at risk and whatever, and when I remembered that it's just a cute 42-minute story with a happy ending I was like :)))))

I've decided they're one of those mostly-white "marble" foxes, still pinning down exact markings. that's partly cus white is the easiest color of chunky wool yarn to find for cheap on Tori, followed by natural greys, but the fact that they're a color morph of human origin is part of their backstory
