When I opened it, I found two sweaters. I was already tearing up, thinking about Ed and his wife continuing on the tradition—and then Ed said, “They’re from my mother. We picked them out together. I just couldn’t remember where she’d put them, and I just found them.”
Merry Christmas Eve, everyone.
My aunt died in 2017. She didn’t have girls, so she always bought me pretty things. Usually it was sweaters. This year, her youngest son, my cousin Edward, came to visit for Xmas with his family. I knew just by squeezing the box (a thing I do, shut up) that it was a sweater.

Today’s #nytstrands puzzle was a doozy for me. It made me fully aware of how long it’s been since our Taiwanese-American family has celebrated with a “traditional” Thanksgiving feast. On our table: Taiwanese hotpot; sushi, roasted cauliflower. Candied cranberries this year! That counts right?!
