So, are the Democratic senators going to follow their usual practice and vote to confirm him b/c he's a colleague?

Like, "corporate lawyer" is obviously not a bullshit job even if one suspects the work is not always very fulfilling nor socially positive. I don't need to have ever been a corporate lawyer to understand that fact.
Maybe it's b/c I'm a historian?
Boy, American Christianity seems to be tailor-made for sociopaths.
In particular "elite" lefty academia. If you work at schools that aren't R1 or an elite liberal arts college, your job is a lot more like a "real" job. I'm halfway through the If Books Could Kill episode and I'm honestly agog at how insulated he was.
I remember "better dead than red." The right has just slotted Muslims in for communists.
I was forced to watch TV news when I had breakfast in a diner recently and I strongly resonated with the sentiment that being an intelligent person in America today is like being awake during a surgery.
The problem is that most people (understandably!) don't actually know what historians actually do and, even if we do some kind of quantitative work, what our sources actually look like.
I think this stuff also has very limited utility for economic and social history studying periods before states started doing mass data collection.
I've done this kind of work, and I struggled to find use for tools more complicated than excel.
I've said it many times: it is striking how many of the GOP pathologies that currently dominate public life were effectively test-run in the hothouse environment of climate debate.
"Voices in Slaveryβs Archive: New project to map enslaved peopleβs testimony across Guyana."
I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to do this project w/ colleagues I deeply respect in Guyana and the UK.

I wonder if some of this is generational. I'm often taken aback by how hostile my students are to any expression of religion by politicians. They see it as an afront to the separation of church and state.
I don't necessarily take this to mean that they are not religious.
βIn no part of the constitution is more wisdom to be found than in the clause which confides the question of war or peace to the legislature, and not to the executive...[T]he trust and the temptation would be too great for any one man."

These people are fucking morons. The idea that something that LOOKS LIKE academic research IS academic research is so stupid, it's impossible to know where to begin, other than by suspecting their whole careers have been motivated by "Will this do?"

It will never stop being wild to me how many people and institutions responded to Trump's election by saying, "Whelp, I guess he's dictator for life now."
I think it's great that our "leaders" are trying to mold our civilization into one with neither morals nor ethics. Nothing but upsides to that.
"If you listened to the campus left over the years.."
Most adults actually don't spend much time thinking about what college students are up to. That's a bizarre hobby that only exists in the elite media clique.
very unfair to call this guy a Nazi merely because he had a Nazi tattoo, retweets Nazis, and praises Nazi shows. after all, he could just be really astonishingly fucking dumb. seems like a great candidate!
βdirect your anger at trump not the democratsβ buddy you are severely underestimating the amount of anger i have available to me
The Department of Education has hung a massive banner honoring a racist college dropout who built a lucrative career out of targeting professors for harassment
I think about this Tony Benn speech much more than I used to
the reason people sometimes act madder at democrats than republicans when republicans do impossibly evil shit is the same reason why, if you hired an exterminator to handle a roach infestation and he showed up to feed and play with them instead, your first instinct wouldnβt be to yell at the roaches
Reality check
The war on Iran is fundamentally illegal
Yet not one general or even soldier -- they we know of -- refused to follow this illegal order
The goal *is* the wasteland-ification of much of MENA so that Israel and the Emirates can rule over rubble.
CHINA: "The US is a war addict. Throughout its over 240-year history, it has been at war for all but 16 years. The US has 800 overseas military bases in over 80 countries and regions. The US is the main cause of international disorder, global turbulence, and regional instability."
Where is the lie?
The one thing Democrats have always had full control over is what they say, and most of what they have chosen to say has been trivial and normalizing
Gaza truly revealed the deep depravity of the global north's elite class.
literally just Lord Farquaadβs βSome of you may die, but it is a sacrifice I am willing to makeβ
He's stupid in the exactly correct way to get published in "prestige" outlets.
Many such cases.
