at two opposite ends, Vertov's Man With a Movie Camera (a "found footage doc") planned edits/fx w/sketches + Eisenstein's Battleship Potempkin planned EVERYTHING like structured sheet music

so many of the current crop of image gen services or workflows are too eager to create detailed images, when visual drafting in the pre-production process has very little to do with what the final shot actually looks like. it's about exploring the flow. it's whiteboarding.

working on some research about better uses for ai in the storyboarding/pre-viz process and something really hits me about Rian Johnson's Knives Out storyboards. the sketchiness of early storyboards isnt goofy or lazy, it's about conveying ONLY the narrative details that matter
