Been thinking a lot of about custom lobbies in multiplayer games.

A new form of 3D scanning is being developed using voxels instead of splats.
Personally I’m not into the boxed aesthetic, I dig the digital brushstrokes of Gaussian Splatting and how organic they look, instead of this.
But new techniques, more options, are always good.

This Majorana 1 chip has me thinking back to a paper from 2003 by Nick Bostrom. Long story short, the moment we use quantum computers to make worlds with variables that believe themselves to be real, the probability of us being simulated becomes almost certain.

Oh yea that’s definitely a great idea. Add some atmospheric and point lights in your favorite engine and the baked light will be even less noticeable.
I should take note and try to scan under overcast more often

There are some new ways to have dynamic splats reactive light if you pull them into unreal!
Also, I’ve used them to build AR experiences and because they’re somewhat transparent, often audiences give the note that they love how the real world “leaks” through, giving the illusion of lighting it

It’s been cool to work with Splats because it feels very similar to working in projection design, in that it takes up space, but can’t be touched. Instead of it being a 3D model with collisions, it’s more like a virtual cast of light. Love it.
