It's widely known that autocorrect has gotten bad lately, this is not news. What really bothers me though is how it's correcting correctly spelled but perhaps more obscure words into better-known but wrong words. Sorry you think there's no way I could really mean "potable", Google, but in fact I do.

The hose thing specifically is so weird to me. It's a treated, potable water source! "It's symbolic of not being cared for" No, it was symbolic of running around outside and not wanting to go back inside for a drink of water!

this makes me wonder: do people like "ai" or do they just like the idea of having a low-stakes conversation with someone for whom it is impossible to judge you with no expectations or strings attached. or reworded, is the popularity of conversational AI just a symptom of social atomization?

In 1971, the LA Dept. of Airports still had high hopes that an international airport would be built in Palmdale.

This promo is like something out of The Simpsons. Left to right, you have busy LAX, then Ontario, then regional Van Nuys, then bare-ass tumbleweed desert in Palmdale.

i think that one of the things that nobody in the mainstream talks about (yes i know we complain about it on here all the time if you think this is the mainstream oh boy) is how successfully politicians have divested themselves of any responsibility for anything at all

The replies to that post are horrible fyi (including my own I'm sure). Someone is mad at the entire period of baroque music

I had to read the Terry Brooks novel "Magic Kingdom for Sale" in high school and I remember hating it so much that I couldn't even articulate why, it was like it was on a molecular level. I had a similar reaction to "The Hobbit". I wanted to get into a fist fight with these books.

I don't pretend to know what makes a worthy steakhouse but I have to be honest, I ate at a Texas Roadhouse in Kansas at random a couple years ago and it was hopping and actually pretty good

I think we're in a phase of late-dx that didn't exist for previous generations and isn't going to exist (at this degree, at least) for future ones. People won't be playing catch up in 20 years the way we have been.

I'm interested to see how this debate changes over time, bc I really don't think we're dealing with "adult autism" vs "kid autism", it's criteria, societal awareness and understanding, etc., changing. Getting dx'd as an adult now or a kid in 20 years isn't about the autism, it's about the times.

This War Will Destabilize The Entire Mideast Region And Set Off A Global Shockwave Of Anti-Americanism vs. No It Won’t George W. Bush may think that a war against Iraq is the solution to our problems, but the reality is, it will only serve to create far more.

We had some of those guys in my neighborhood in Berkeley, just hanging out on the phone poles and being goofy while the pigeons looked very unimpressed

I really like when perfectly coiffed Instagram Mar-a-Lago FOX News hair gets combined with the dumpiest clothing you've ever seen. Lady wanted to be comfy (no problem) but she's still yoked to that damn hair...

I think I still have residual CA gas brain because even now, years after I moved away, I'll see premium for $4.25, which is high for around here, and get excited about it

I think this is true, but I also distinctly recall that $5+/gallon gas was absolutely a thing in California for a protracted period during the 2008 housing crisis, and periodically after that as well

Trying to figure out how to make "I posted on xanga from my high school library" sound menacing

Also that .edu "flex" is extra embarrassing because it's a not-so-subtle "I went to a 'good' school" coming from a 40yo

A portrait of a short eared owl face

All of our wildlife patients this year so far have been owls, but this is our first short-eared.
You can help prevent car strikes like this by obeying rural speed limits and not throwing any litter out of cars. Even organics like apple cores attract rodents to roads, which attracts their hunters. πŸͺΆ

I made my mom drive me around town to a bunch of different convenience stores and gas stations one day in search of an Orbitz and when I finally found one I took one (1) swig and was out. Revolting in every way (but cool to look at)

Purely anecdotal of course but I do think it's probably significant on the Ohio Diner Scale of Regular White Guy Politics that the electrician I had over at my house this morning brought up, without prompting, autonomous drone technology and then started badmouthing Palantir and Peter Theil by name
