The biggest scandal of all is that we still have the Tory guidance in place and staff still have no ffp3 respirators for an airborne virus that is vascular in nature and can cause heart damage & blood clots.

Ongoing issues today:
"Wider access to vaccination...
Legislation around air quality...
Mask wearing in healthcare settings that would protect the vulnerable."
These are simple things, but they have become so politicised."
Burnet Institute has called for stronger government leadership on indoor air quality, giving evidence to the New South Wales Legislative Council’s Inquiry into Clean Indoor Air.

A sobering article.
Need a new technology to slip into the conversation? Try photoacoustics. This light-based imaging technique is being combined with ultrasound to create fast 3D images that show both the shape of soft tissues and how blood is flowing. We are way beyond x-rays now.

I did read that this may be a bit out of date in the outrage stakes as this government has actually implemented some overdue reforms to the water industry. (anglia byline?)
Does it feature Feargal Sharkey btw? He’s been amazing over his campaigning for clean water.
This 'correction' from @lewisgoodall.com regarding accusations from Reform and the Conservatives that the Greens engaged in sectarianism, deserves to be widely read.

It’s tricky. Given the way children mill about in corridors and are often lined up very close to one another, I think a package of measures including CO2 readings below 800, normalisation of masking for those than can/want to and better sickness/attendance policies would work best. Awareness is key.
(2/2) H13 filters are these strictly neccesary?. Plenty of Air filters seem to use no11 filters. Anyway - hoping and assuming the right people were consulted and wrote it but the language (around ozone additions for example) is a not explicit enough for the average teacher imo. Good start tho..
Me too - any assessment of need for ‘Air Cleaning Units’ is also down to the school/nursery. It’s really positive that Clean Indoor Air is finally getting better recognition but not good that the parameters are too high and the info on the documents is not clearer. Also filters seem to be (1/2)
🚨 NEW DfE GUIDANCE
- VENTILATION & AIR QUALITY -
Clean air matters - especially for #ClinicallyVulnerable children, staff and families. This is an important recognition that airborne transmission is preventable.

Yet the government think that 800-1,500 CO2 measurements in schools is perfectly acceptable in new ventilation guidance for schools just published. @cvcev.bsky.social have written a post about this on X.
Since measles is coming back, here's a question:
What is the "half-life" of airborne decay of measles?
Answer: We have no idea. People think it's long (1 to 2 hours).
Why don't we know? Funders largely felt there wasn't a need to measure it since it was managed with vaccines.

In 2022 France implemented a new law stating that 50% of any new public building should be built from timber or other bio materials.
An outcome is new schools that look like this!

More good news on vaccines
A two-in-one mRNA vaccine developed by Moderna targets seasonal influenza & COVID-19. It produced robust and durable immune responses w/o safety concerns in a small mid-stage trial.
mRNA is the future. We can’t afford to lose it.

It's like living through the French Revolution or WWI, the sky is still blue and superficially things look the same. But the past is a different country. Mark Carney talked about a “rupture” with the post-war order but COVID primed the rupture.
I believe there was a well known one called Tallulah.
