Completing Reconstruction, I think, is the only means for us to not only surpass the current political moment, but the broader economic arrangement of capitalism.

I’m referring to the movement that came about in response to George Floyd’s murder.

Back then, we warned that that power would eventually be generalized. That’s the process that’s occurring now and the same people that allied with the right are aghast at what’s happening.

About five years ago, there was a political movement oriented around reducing the state’s capacity for violence and its ability to imprison people with impunity. It even garnered popular support until centrists pushed back against it alonside with the right.

I think people have to come to terms with the fact that this is something that is latent within liberalism; that is, if markets and growth have to be protected at all costs, conciliation with the right and fascism is inevitable.
