Yeah, it’s true that the technology is changing so rapidly that it’s hard to remember what it was like a couple years back, and norms change just as fast. Music might be a better comparison
To some degree this is also true of fine art painting as well, but we take those historical developments for granted because it happened many years ago. Art of any kind should be appraised within its context, and what the existing norms were in its day.

I wonder what it is like to age in new media now, or how it could be. We need better examples, aside from the "pioneers" who get glowing obituaries but nobody has paid enough attention to for 30 years. Maybe we get to be the example!
I keep seeing artists claim "Glitch" as a genre or medium, but it feels like a theme park now. It was never MY thing (although I get associated with it), but at least I could appreciate the intention behind the artists working in that vein.
