The UK universities cutting geography have lost their bearings From climate change to geopolitics, the knowledge, skills and insights of geographers have never been more relevant, say five professors

Our new piece out today in Times Higher Education about the threats to Geography in the UK - particularly fieldwork - please do share. It links to a recent snapshot survey on the challenges being faced in UK HE, which highlights the inequities of the challenges, but also fears of what is yet to come

Daniel Allen and I are organising an @rgsibg.bsky.social conference (hybrid) session on legal animal geographies.

We invite papers that not only highlight current multispecies injustice, but seek to challenge, resist, and contest these systems to create more just multispecies worlds and futures.

We would love for @jaytoddgla.bsky.social’s and my critical response to be read widely, given the Sullivan Review’s potential for far-reaching implications across the social and health sciences β€” and indeed well beyond the academy

Myself & many colleagues are facing this at Sheffield Uni - double punishment for strike action. In the midst of this, yesterday many departments got an email announcing imminent structural reviews (ie redundancies). @sheffielducu.bsky.social

Union condemns continued docking of staff pay following strike action at University of Sheffield The University and College Union (UCU) has today condemned the lockout and withholding of staff pay at the University of Sheffield following lawful industrial action

The University of Sheffield has stopped paying staff.

Not for striking but for refusing to work unpaid to make up for strike days they were already docked for.

This is punishment, not negotiation. And it’s completely reckless.

New Year Honours 2026: knighthood for Leicester vice-chancellor Professors from UCL andΒ Plymouth Marjon University receive damehoods, while four vice-chancellors commended

The British honours system is corrupt and disgusting and any educated person who accepts one goes down in my estimation - especially if it's a VC who is closing a geography department, and who was born in a country subjugated by the British empire. www.timeshighereducation.com/news/new-yea...

I have designed a 20min questionnaire looking to explore how you all teach animal geographies.

The survey aims to understand your pedagogical practices, course design, and how you translate all that animal geographies research out there to your students.

Following the survey there is an option for you to leave your name and email for a 30-60 minute interview where I will seek to explore any questions arising from your questionnaire response, the emotional labour of teaching animal geographies, and anything else you think is important.

There are no geographical requirements of your teaching having to have been in the UK.

I take animal Geographies as broadly conceived rather than any narrow conception. (E.g., your teaching ould be on animals and society or specifically on conservation).

The survey can be undertaken by anyone at any career stage (e.g., Teaching fellows, lectures, profs, retired colleagues), with the caveat that you are teaching, or have taught, animal geographies in HE (e.g., one class, a module, or part of a wider course).
