Writing in todayβs Scotland on Scotland I reflect on the UK Governmentβs budget this week.
Without doubt, scrapping the two child limit was the right thing to do. A hard fought win for campaigners.
The fight continues to enable all of us to afford every day essentials β¬οΈπ

It is as ever, the hope that kills you. Some game.
Plus 5 week wait, young person penalty, sanctions - the list is long. The whole system causes destitution by design.
What an amazing day on Saturday to shout, march and demand a better Scotland. Team CAS are proud to stand up for fairness and for the people we help every day π

Today was about hope. Hope for a better Scotland where all of us have enough to flourish. To stand beside friends and colleagues and demand this loudly was a complete joy.

The Minimum Income Guarantee can provide the sure foundation that we all need by ensuring a level of income that will allow all of us to live a dignified life. A roadmap has been created on the steps we need to take get there, now we need our politicians to commit to delivering these.
This morning our Head of Social Justice joined with colleagues from @povertyalliance.org and @independentage.bsky.social to discuss the impact a minimum income guarantee could make and the steps needed to deliver this as part of Challenge Poverty week. #ChallengePoverty #WeDemandBetter
βBe in no doubt that this is irrefutable testimony - it is a famineβ
From social security systems to energy markets, structures are broken, corralling people down a path of poverty and injustice. Robbing people of their dignity and costing all of us. Change is needed.

Two very distressing images. The first is a mother cradling her painfully thin baby - they are both starving. The second is you g girls with saucepans clamouring to get a place in the queue for food. The desperation in their faces is heartbreaking
It was my turn this morning on BBC Radio Scotland to bring βThought for the Dayβ.
We are on the precipice of the greatest avoidable human tragedy of our lifetimes. All of our actions matter.
What an absolute shambles. The very worst kind of policy making. Is it less worse? Perhaps. But what a shamefully low bar.
In a just and compassionate society, we can do so much better than this. Social security is an investment in all of us. You and me.
Looks incredible! Keep posting photos.

NEW PROPOSAL
The rumoured new proposal seems to be that the 4+ rule wonβt count if you are an existing claimant but will count for new claimants. This would be a disaster and it is crucial MPs vote against the green paper and follow through on the βrecommended amendmentβ. Why? π§΅1/2
