NYC teachers and school leaders, there’s still time to join session two of this series on family literacy engagement. Last round we had around 300 participants - join us:)
I urge you to stop what you're doing and watch Alysa Liu's free skate from yesterday. I have never seen anything like this. I understand why sports writers are born now. I have never seen anyone as free from the burdens of this world as this pierced Oakland girl spinning to Donna Summers.
Where the Wildflowers Grow by Terah Shelton Harris- have been loving. Totally lost myself.
Looking forward to it!
@nqcliteracy.bsky.social we are so glad will be joining us!!!!

This collection by Jill Damatac called Dirty Kitchen is incredible.
For NYC teachers- a family literacy engagement series! We launched this week with around 300 registered participants. There’s still time to join if you’re interested.
Friends! Thrilled to be in convo tmrw for an Instagram Live on Sat 1/24 at 2pm EST with the wonderful author educator @torreymaldonado.bsky.social to discuss his new picture book, Just Right. Join us to hear about Torrey’s process. This is one of my new faves for sure. Tune in at @nqarooni on IG.
Loving this debut, To the Moon and Back by Eliana Ramage-a Native story told in multiple voices. Heavily female. Beautifully rendered.
Real Americans by Rachel Kong- another family saga straddling many years that I couldn’t put down, that deals with all sorts of important issues my friends and I are often discussing.
Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall was a page turner. Read it in a day over winter break.
Cried and cried when reading Heart the Lover by Lily King. The narrative voice is so strong; was sad I didn’t read Writers and Lovers first.
Here’s a new thread for 2026 reads that I may or may not keep up with;) First- finished Lonely Crowds by Stephanie Wambugu. Dark and depressing in a lot of ways but starkly written in a beautiful way, and the end floored me.
Loved the Magnificent Ruins by Nayantara Roy- intergenerational family saga grappling with diaspora life at its finest. It was my last of 2025.

Currently reading and unable to put down (or stop crying). It’s deeply painful but feels so incredibly
important. TY @stephaniefoo.bsky.social 🤎
Adding to my 2025 reads book list. Finished Reel by @kennedyryan.bsky.social and loved it, like everything else she writes, because of how richly and full of nuance she writes female characters in particular.
Thank you so much for the invitation. 🙏🏽
Thank you so much for contributing!!
Today is my birthday. Please consider donating to the Brooklyn Book Bodega, as I’m running the upcoming NYC Marathon to raise money for their work — bringing relevant and meaningful texts to families in need. nonprofits.brooklyn.org/p2p/414203/n...
Thanks so much friend.
Nearly done with this gorgeously written (albeit painful) beauty as well. Robert Jones Jr’s The Prophets is necessary reading.
On this awesome @kennedyryan.bsky.social kick and loving every single one. Finished the Skyland series, though not in order.
Thank you Nick.
Thank you to the Next Generation Indie Awards folks for this finalist recognition for Nourishing Caregiver Collaborations ✨✨✨

That said, a couple newer school-related books have the ability to transform school leadership conversations:
