A light brown toad sitting on rocks and pine needles! They have a large, sharp crest from the tip of their nose, over their eyes, and connecting to their large parotoid glands! Their sides and cheeks are covered in large, spiny looking bumps!

Our friend the Noellert's Toad lives in the rainforests of southwestern Sri Lanka! They are an uncommon toad found in isolated areas that is sometimes also found along the forest edge near rubber plantations and tea estates! (photo by Edward Wong)

Ceratiomyxa sphaerosperma from Mera, Pastaza, Ecuador. This tiny slime mold makes its spores on little stalks, giving it a distinctive appearance. My favorite feature of these are the glass-like stems.

I never expected to see snakes on the Galapagos Islands. In fact, one book I read before the trip said the islands had a few small snakes but seeing them was extremely rare. As I’ve learned during my travels, I seldom find snakes when looking for them and often find them when I’m not. Consequently, I found this Galapagos racer on my first island hike.

The underwool of a Musk Ox is called "Qiviut" & is a very valuable fiber. It's extremely soft & 8 times warmer than wool by weight yet not itchy like wool can be as the fibers lack the hooks & barbs wool has. A 1 oz skein of Qiviut Yarn fetches close to $100. #animals
