Nice πŸ‘ I found my first ones today πŸ˜€

I'd heard about them but never seen one till todayπŸ˜€. They were in groups of 15-20 individuals with all sizes from juvenile to presumably adult.

A first for me today - Bristly Millipede (Polyxenus lagurus). They don't like to stop moving, so getting stacked shots was difficult. 3-4mm for the bigger ones, the little ones were tiny.

I have the 2x teleconverter as well but don't tend to use it at night. It's a bit fiddly to take on and off in the dark compared to the Raynox. Happy to give a few tips if you'd like.

Thanks Paul. She was posing rather nicely for me. Still had to get into an awkward position to get the shot though πŸ˜….

Hi Jesika,
This was with an OM1 mkii, M.Zuiko 90MM macro and an added Raynox dcr-250 for this real close-up. It's a stack of 68 individual images πŸ™‚.

Sticking with spiders for this one. Here's a female Walnut Orbweaver (Nuctenea umbratica) I found a couple of nights back. They have a slightly flattened abdomen allowing them to hide in cracks and crevices during the day.

This Cyclosa conica spider (Trashline Orbweaver) was trying to blend in on a small tree. I've only ever seen this species once before, then found two on this one trip. The other stayed in its web for the second shot.

I'm in the process of rewiring my house at the moment and found this beautiful wasp nest while crawling around under the floor today. Thankfully, no one was home 🐝🐝 - looks to be a couple of years old.

A great surprise earlier this week - one of my photos gained a second place in the annual Close Up Photographer of the Year @cupoty.bsky.social awards πŸ˜ƒ. An unexpected result amongst some amazing photographers. www.cupoty.com to see the stunning finalists and winners.

It's not really been the weather for macro photography recently 🌧🌧🌧 so I took to the beach for the first time in ages. A few hours at Charmouth and some great nodules collected. Looking forward to getting stuck into the prepping - should be some good ones. #fossils #ammonites #jurassiccoast

A Robber Fly grasping its hoverfly prey from behind and still with its proboscis in the hoverfly's back.
I found these two on some path-side bracken in the woodland at RSPB Minsmere, on the east coast of the UK.

A scene I'd been hoping to find for some time and finally got the chance back in the summer at RSPB Minsmere. This Robber Fly was preoccupied enough to let me get a few stacked shots before flying off.

A recent bucket-lister findπŸ˜€. A Green Huntsman (Micrommata virescens) female guarding her egg sac πŸ’š.

Luckily, she'd made her retreat under some bracken and I could turn it over without causing any damage.

Amazing creatures πŸ™‚. Thanks for the info - I'd heard about the formic acid but assumed it was from the tubes that extend from their 'tail'. I can see the slit below their head in the photo.
