CFPB Looks to Shift Lawyers to Jobs Finalizing Trump-Era Rules The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, having lost roughly half its lawyers during President Donald Trump’s second term, is trying to reshuffle the remaining ones to finalize rules on open banking ...

What happens when you shift from trying to destroy a government agency, lose around half of your lawyers, and then undertake an ambitious rulemaking agenda?

You scramble to get the remaining lawyers to switch jobs. New from me:

Agenda The IPA Innovative Payments Conference is an inclusive opportunity for all current and future IPA members in the payments industry to engage in exceptional formal and informal learning experiences...

To date, Russ Vought has yet to make a public appearance with his acting CFPB director hat on. That changes on April 30, when he's supposed to speak at the Innovative Payments Conference in DC.

It's closed to the press, apparently. Transparency!

Study Group with Rohit Chopra: Lessons from the Failure of Silicon Valley Bank On March 10, 2023, Silicon Valley Bank was closed by regulators in one of the fastest bank runs in history. Other large banks, including Signature Bank and First Republic Bank, also failed.Former Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Rohit Chopra served as one of five members of the Board of Directors of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) during these bank failures. Chopra will host a discussion with Martin J. Gruenberg, who served as Chairman of the FDIC.

We're getting the band back together!

And if you're a national bank with less than $700 billion in assets, your supervision is probably going to get a lot easier.

OCC Cancels Collective Bargaining Agreement in Trump Union Push The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency told employees that it is canceling the agency’s collective bargaining agreement, according to an internal email obtained by Bloomberg Law.

If you're an OCC employee and a member of the National Treasury Employees Union, your collective bargaining agreement is definitely going away (unless a court saves it):

I've had a trio of stories on goings on at the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency in the last day. Here's the latest:

If you're a national bank and you have an outstanding MRA, there's a pretty good chance it's going away:

Antonin Scalia School of Law renamed due to awkward acronym George Mason University's law school would have had a less than prestigious abbreviation

Just a reminder that the original name of this law school (back in 2016) was the Antonin Scalia School of Law, and then it was quickly changed to the Antonin Scalia Law School.

Take a quick look and see if you can guess why they made the change.

From today's Senate Banking Committee hearing, Sen. Van Hollen asks Comptroller of the Currency Gould about the World Liberty trust charter application:

Gould: If you're suggesting the president would do anything inappropriate or illegal, then I reject that.

CVH: Oh I am suggesting that.

When I did some reporting on the $4.7 million the CFPB coughed up for Vought's security to cover basically six months, professionals who oversaw details protecting former top US government officials said that was a staggering amount. Didn't say it was necessarily unwarranted, but that it was a lot.
