I’m two weeks in to my new position as a senior counterterrorism analyst at the Afghanistan War Commission after 14 years at AEI. Grateful for the opportunity to serve in a different capacity. Grateful for the opportunities, experiences, and particularly my colleagues.

Cost-imposing strikes are unlikely to work given how much the Houthis (and Iran) benefit from Red Sea shipping attacks. But the Houthis care greatly about their control of Yemen, and that is the one thing that the United States can threaten. It's time to apply the Reagan Doctrine to the Houthis.
My AEI colleague, Ken Pollack, and I argue that it is time for the United States to stop thinking tactically about the Houthis in Yemen and start thinking strategically.
