My mother passed away two days ago.

Yesterday we buried her. It was a beautiful ceremony.

She suffered so much, but her fight is finally over.

Now we keep on living.

The pictured character, "Captain Sabrael" is an orc with blue/green skin, dark black/brown hair in small locks style, and a purple mask covering their eyes. The mask is a royal purple color with gold filigree embroidered into it, they have dark purple leather armor, adorned with teeth, and brown leather cuffs on their forearms. Over their shoulders is a light brown fur capelet. The pose has their back turned to the viewer, while they look over their shoulder, with a snarl. They have a ridged forehead which comes to 5 spiked points, and dark purple markings across their body, as well as various scars. Next to their head on the right hand side is a JJJ logo date 2026, and has the handle @JacqJohnsonArt typed underneath.

“Bait” - a marker, ink, and paint pen drawing of a pale green fish floating in deep water, with a bite taken out of the body just below the head. The water is dark, and there are six shadowy figures behind the fish, outside the light, all staring at the viewer. There are light points reflected in their eyes, but no other facial features are visible. Their silhouettes suggest they are merfolk. They look dangerous. What, or should I say, whom is the bait for? Your camera will be found weeks from now, caught in a fishing net.

The bird’s wings are flared, and their feather crest raised, all in silhouette, except for the top feathers on one wing, which reflect the red light. Their head is in profile, and their eye is reflecting a point of light (or maybe their eyes glow; I’m not sure, it’s a very scary raven-parrot). They are not saying, but they ARE thinking: “Whatever you want, piss off. I’m not in the mood.”

The eye holes are black, elongated and amused, but evil. The figures are wrapped in purple cloaks with no arms visible, but under their masks are strips of torn flesh and exposed jawbones tied on with twine; the mask hides a rotting monster. They are standing in a forest at night, with the full moon shining down on them, highlighting their masks. Three of the figures are standing in the center, heads together, looking at the viewer, and smiling with their loose jawbones, the one on the right with their tongue hanging down through their jar. They are bending down, as if they are much taller than the viewer. Another figure is standing back by a tree on the right, looking like they will stop the viewer from leaving/running. Underneath, a digital blue rectangle has white digital text: “Come now, my child, if we were planning to harm you, do you think we’d be lurking here beside the path in the very darkest part of the forest? - Kenneth Patchen”. This is what I thought of the first time I saw Hornet; she looked like something I had seen before.

A marker, ink, and paint pen drawing over a copy of the graphite drawing that is an attempt to draw a painting described in The Expanse book Leviathan Falls, called The Education of the Third Miko. It is described as a woman sitting on a throne of skulls, making eye contact with the viewer, as a tear runs down her left cheek. My drawing is of an Asian woman, as the fictional artist is described as Asian. Her long straight black hair falls over the right side of her face down to in front of her knees, and pulled behind her hunched shoulder on the right. Her head is tilted down, with her visible eye looking up through her eyebrows at the viewer. She is thin, her arms stretched out to either side, her hands resting on the arms of the skull throne. She wears a long red dress with tight sleeves and a high neck, so only the skin of her hands and face can be seen. The dress flows over her legs and down over the bones at her feet, like a waterfall. The throne is made of human skulls and bones. The skulls form the arms and seat of the throne, with shoulder bones (scapula) at the base, divided by leg bones. On either side, two columns of skulls and vertebrae rise up higher than her head, topped with arm bones and scapula, and behind her is a dark arched opening containing a pyramid of skulls receding into darkness. Loosely drawn skulls and leg bones are scattered under the hem of her dress, and around the throne. The grey background gets darker grey towards the top. I was trying to express the encroaching darkness. I really enjoy The Expanse, both the books and the show, and I was curious if anyone had tried to create the image described. All I found was two AI pics on a Reddit thread, and they were terrible. So, I started with a graphite drawing, then photographed it, printed it on art paper, and then worked over the image with paint pen, ink, and marker.
