Spur of the moment trip to see grandma on her 91st bday today. Exhausted. Traveled all night, one more short flight to NoWheresVille, then an hour drive to MiddleOfNothing, but this is going to be so worth it. It's Valentine's, but every day is a good one to be with those you love.

If you're into the smell of weed, pick the farthest bay at the Lucille MudBusters car wash in Wasilla. The vehicle in front of us did take a suspiciously long time. The LED lights probably really elevate the hotbox experience.

Sunshine Cat is trying really hard to be okay. We've been doing daytime hospitalization at the vet the last two days to give her a chance to recover, but it's rough. We could use love the most, but also a little help. 💔

I realize broad science-literacy problems cannot generally be solved just by shoving more facts at people but I really wish more people understood that the entire purpose and mechanism of a vaccine is to educate your OWN immune system, making it about the most "natural" medical intervention possible

When I was little, the U.S. military came to our home at gunpoint and took me and my family away. We were imprisoned for years in barbed wire camps simply because we were Japanese American. I have spent my life telling that story, hoping it would never be repeated.

The notebooks in the middle are empty, but she figures my high schoolers can use them. The red one has some pages in it, but looks older than I am? Why do we still have these??
My teens are disappointed the neon ones are all used up. I think I gained points for having owned neon notebooks though.

My boomer mother gave me another "bag of treasure papers" (her exact words) I get home & sort them tonight....friends these include a notebook of Algebra 2 work & Geometry quizzes from high school, which was more than a couple years ago. Why??

There may have been a Nick Begich sign in the state ROW behind my house that took a midnight walk & was never seen again. TBF I asked the campaign to get it & asked DOT about removal. DOT said they don't have staff to deal with it. I'm willing to pick up all types of trash that's in the ROW though.

We made it to 8 p.m. until campfire ignition today. I think this is night number 5?
I saw their new firewood pile. They're unfortunately well supplied.

Uhm, so the dehydration may have been a thing, but that wasn't the source of kid's pain. Went to PCP next day, who listened to the initial hunch I had, and we ended up back at Prov needing emergency surgery. It went well but was much more complex due to the long timeframe before getting to the OR.

I think we all need a hug today. Man, this is rough.

Yes, the 2nd day hits so hard! I got sleep, but alas also #kids. Looking forward to bedtime again. 😴

The child did lead with how they knew what the CD player was, but.....

They've used a fabulous vintage Sony cassette deck at their grandparents, but apparently didn't make the connection to being able to just shove a cassette in a slot in a dash.

Thanks. Kid is getting better! Longest night. Did today on 1 hrs sleep. ED was busy & Dr wanted to just give pain meds and shuffle us out, but our nurse advocated for us (❤️) and it turned out to be significant dehydration causing the pain. It all just took so much time w/o an invested provider.

In my vehicle today, my teenager asked, "What's that weird slot thing under the radio buttons?"

Friends, that "weird shaped slot thing" is a cassette player, and we have owned this vehicle since 2017.

Maybe this is a parent fail, but also, how did that not get asked before now?

Felt the need to head to emergency with a kid in the night. Nurse just came in for vitals and they're wearing Carhartts (not the scrubs). This has got to be the most Alaskan thing I've seen at a medical facility.

That was a lot of words and also somehow not a lot of words.
