He was an Ulster Television announcer too, for a short time. As well as Radio 4 of course.

Rest in peace Edgar Martin. A great announcer and such a character.
No idea what an ECL counter is, but it's the same age as me ๐คฃ.
Fantastic. I loved introducing the news over this clock, back in old analogue TV Con. Manually cutting to and from it.
Bob Monkhouse (21st November 1983). Bob introduces Victoria Wood at the piano.
She's Been Away is another of his works with a brilliant turn by Peggy Ashcroft. He often loves telling his stories in two different timelines.
He writes with an eye to how he's going to direct, which means everything is pared back and told with simplicity and an air of mystery... which I find really draws me in.
I've been a huge fan of his work since watching Caught on a Train when I was child. Peggy Ashcroft was brilliant in it.
Fab outfit.
Bruce Forsyth first appeared on television in 1939, on a programme called 'Come and Be Televised" presented by Jasmine Bligh.
In what I can only believe is a scheduling coincidence, last night's 2nd episode of All Creatures on BBC Four (approx 8 mins in) featured a storyline around television transmissions starting at the Holme Moss transmitter.
Did you find unlimited rice pudding, etc, etc?
...a wonderful piece of BBC history lives again. This unit was last used on-air in 2012 for DSO! (2/3)
If you're seeing this it isn't a photo of Streeting and Mandleson, they both want you to know this is Mandleson out with his Stookie Bill doll. ๐
You wouldn't want to spread it further in case poor little Wes gets upset.
Oh, that's rather fab. I didn't know there was an S4C version.
Nigel Farage looks uncomfortable as Jamie Raskin uses his opening statement to absolutely demolish him
It is a standout performance. Once seen, it stays with you for a long time.
Max Bygraves at the Royalty (3rd August 1972). Hattie Jacques joins Max for a spot of banter.
Another in an occasional series of 'celebs I've interviewed' (this time at the Divorcing Jack charity premier in Belfast)... the only other detail I remember are his eyes.
Thankfully not, he'd been dead 4 years by then.
I interviewed him once... at a charity tap-dance-athon in Belfast.
Old church ruins and grave stones against a sunny blue sky.
It's a great week for OOO.

It certainly was. I was on duty for the power cut the previous year too ๐คฃ
Ohhhh, I was the announcer / director on BBC One Northern Ireland that night... I left the pres suite to get chocolate from the vending machine... and came back to find Red Corner had fallen off air due to the power failure at TVC. Great fun.
Yeah it was a great video! I've just subscribed, thank you for sharing.
A collage of two BBC logos stacked one on top of the other. On top a recreation of the Lambie Nairn logo, beneath the actual logo.
It's a nicely put together video, which also highlights one of the issues about that logo... its simple elegance was deceptive... and led people to recreate it rather than use the actual logo. Even in this video the actual logo doesn't appear until 7 minutes in... instead we get a recreation.
A privilege to say goodbye tonight to a broadcasting legend. I've been listening to David Olver on TV since the age of 4... I could only dream of one day being his colleague. The past 25 years have been a pleasure. After 47 years of being in people's homes he deserves the best of retirements.
Yeah, it's always better to stay out of circuit during a take from one network event to another... otherwise you miss lags and transitions... and the cut on the clean feed is slightly delayed too.
