The defeat of Nazism was a Soviet victory. Liberals can't claim it because their heroes (Churchill, FDR) delayed the second front, considered making peace with Hitler, and only joined when attacked. The Red Army did the real work. Obsessing over the pact lets them avoid acknowledging that.
Playbill: Anthropic vs the Pentagon. The "ethical AI" company already helped capture Maduro. The "national security" state always gets what it wants. Both tapdance while the working class, who will be surveilled, has no seat at the table.
The party apparatus didn't seize power—the working class was too shattered to hold it. That's not "leaders bad." That's what imperialist war does to revolution. Anarchist simplicity feels good to you, but a material tragedy actually tells the story.
The Khrushchevite takeover wasn't "aligned interests of those in power." It happened because the Soviet working class was devastated by WWII—millions dead, exhausted, focused on survival. The class that should have controlled the party was too depleted to do so.
Anarchist 'simplicity' explains everything—which means it explains nothing. The vanguard failed for specific reasons. If you don't understand them, you'll just watch it happen again, smug in your purity while the rest of us try to actually learn something.
So WWII and Cold War encirclement made workers' control impossible. Exactly. Socialism under imperialist siege looks like that. You're not critiquing the USSR—you're critiquing history for not being gentle enough. It wasn't.
You misread Lenin. His critique wasn't 'Russia wasn't ready'—workers don't spontaneously transcend capitalism. The party prevents the working class from drowning in its own backwardness. Syndicalism imagines workers arrive pre-made for communism. They don't.
Prefigurative politics: beautiful until someone with a gun shows up. Co-ops don't stop fascists. Mutual aid doesn't stop tanks. The majority of Germans didn't vote Nazi in '32—didn't matter. They seized the state first. You want power or just vibes?
Lenin in Left-Wing Communism: 'We cannot simply seize power and hand it to workers unprepared. The task is to raise them to the level of governing through the very process of revolution.' Anarchists want to skip the raising part. That's not radical—it's reckless. One might even say 'infantile'.
Anarchist Spain: 'no state'—until they needed to fight Franco. Then suddenly committees, coordination, and central command. Turns out you can't defeat fascism with vibes. The question is class power, not anarchist purity tests.
